Snap on YA268 not working

I have an old Snap on YA268 battery charger that is not working anymore and I'm not for sure why. I did a search and came up with a video which said it is likely the rectifier plate that is burnt from someone cranking a car to long.

Does snap on warranty battery charger's or can I at least buy the plate if that is indeed the problem?

Wow, second post and stumped the Garage Journal! lol
Just an update for those who may be searching for the same answer in the future. This particular model by snap on is no longer made or supported. So even if I found out for sure it is the rectifier plate I couldn't buy a replacement. So it looks like I'll just scrap the copper and call it a loss. So much for the "lifetime warranty"

I have one of the chargers and they are very good chargers. Mine stopped working this past winter and I found an alternator repair shop that did repairs on them. The owner said that what ever goes bad is fairly common( did not ask) and he charged $135.00 to repair it and I am very happy to have it back up and running. He also stated that these chargers would be difficult to replace with a newer unit for less than 6-7 hundred dollars that was of equal quality/durability.

By the way where are you located? it might be worth while to ship it and have it repaired before you scrap it.

One of the transformer leads was cracked where it was flattened and bolted down, on ours. Simple fix, hammer a new flat into the end of the lead, drill a hole and re-bolt it.

I only do mechanic work on my own rides so I wasn't sure if there was. I have never bought a truck brand tool new as I hit swap meets or they are already in the family from my dad. I at least thought with there warranty system they would give parts support for life, but I was wrong and they stopped supporting this charger in '06

BMW I will take the panel off and check the leads and such, didn't dawn on me yesterday when I had the panel off.

I see schematics for that model online. It looks quite simple. Even if Snap On will no longer sell you a rectifier, rectifiers are still easily sourced, and I'm sure we can recommend you a replacement part that will be at least as good as the original, for WAY less than a replacement from Snap On would run you.

"Lifetime warranty?" LMAO. Why on earth do so many people think that everything Snap On has a lifetime warranty? No way. Their "lifetime warranty" is comparable to most of the others in the industry, and covers HAND TOOLS (note that torque wrenches are not considered hand tools by anyone other than Husky). Other stuff has various warranties, generally a year or two.

Should be easy to see... or ohm it out. I got lucky, it was my dad's that he used at the shop and it stopped working one day. Figured he got 20 yrs out of it, so he bought a new, fully-automated Snap-On charger (think it was around 800 or more).

Gave it to me, said maybe I could fix it. 30 minutes later it was up and running I did the same with his old Snap-On drop light/reel. Turns out it was just a loose transformer wire. He even sent it in earlier and they said they couldn't fix it, no repair parts... so he got a new one.

Where'd you get if from, Snap On online or from a Snap On truck?

Email [email protected] for your warranty questions. Mind you Snap On will not honor warranties if you bought it used from someone as the warranty is to the original owner. Some trucks will honor it though.

Dude the charger is probably 15+ years old... the parts are NLA. It won't be warrantied anyway.

Not sure where the charger came from it was with my dads things in his shop which his packed to the roof with things from his old business. He doesn't do much wrenching anymore if he can help it so I am playing with it.
Good find BMW the plates right there along with a few other things, I have a missing knob as well but can turn it with pliers. Thank you for that, I'm going to pull it a part now and check the plate and leads

In my youth Snap on was this thing that was talked about but rarely seen. For my dads business he only would buy the cheapest tools possible because they seemed to grow legs and walk away when his employee's got a hold of them.
I was the same my whole life until I discovered the swap meet 2 years ago and bought my first 100+ dollar ratchet for 15$ and its been a quest to find good deals on Snap on since. (Like a complete metric deep socket set for 15$!!)
Being I never bought a Snap on tool new I have never tried to return anything, so I didn't know the extent of the warranty.
