I was given a Snap On YA642 that works but could use a rebuild. I noticed that the ram has some heavy pitting - guessing it was stored for a long period of time in the up position. Is the ram being pitted going to cause issues?
You can fill the pits with JB Weld, then sand the rod down smooth again, it's been done successfully here. The ram itself is not the most critical surface - it's the cylinder that it sits in that needs to be in good shape (and the pump cylinder). Before ordering that rebuild kit, you might want to tear it down and inspect the internals.

I am enjoying reading everyone's experience with these. I have rebuilt a couple now and they are built so nicely. Thank you all for the pictures and build details.

I’ve attempted a Hein-Werner WS and an OTC 5212. The HW was mine and just needed a rebuild as it was leaking. I sent it to Metro Hydraulic in NJ.

The OTC 5212 was in a junkyard. After reassembly, the pump piston leaked. This piece is chromed ($214). The chrome layer adds just enough thickness to make the seal. There isn’t any pump cup on that model, just an o-ring and backing washer. I’m still debating if I want to spend the money hoping that fixes the leak. It’s for a shop press.

That doesn't sound right - there's probably more variation between orings than in the thickness of the chrome layer.

I used the kit from OTC, so it should have been correct, right?
I’ve used Lazzar’s for the HW. I suppose an extra $75 might be worth it.

I just rebuild mine a couple of weeks ago. Not to bad of a job once I got the tank nut off. I don't have the info in front of me at the moment but will get back here with a couple of sites I used for reference. There were a couple of rebuilds on this site, but the pictures are lost to photobucket. I also have made the tool to remove the tank nut that I would be willing to sell, or loan out with a deposit.

Hi. I was wondering if you could send me pictures of the tool you made and how much you'd want for it. I desperately need to buy one. I've tried to make one from cutting up some sockets, but like someone else in the post said, that didn't work for them either. I don't have access to welding equipment, so my resources are limited. but I'm finding this is my 4th case of needing this tool. the last 3, i cut it off and replaced the nut with the new style 47mm. but I'm also finding replacement nuts aren't easy to find. So i think its a good idea i hunt down a tool. thanks. Alan

Post 31 in this thread shows the tool I made. If it works for you then send me a deposit and I'll send you the socket. For more contact with me about this please use the private message system here and we'll work out the details. To PM me click my user name to the left and start conversation

Hate to bring this thread back to life but I have this same jack I’m redoing model 91-642. My question is, does the saddle turn or is this one stationary? I picked this up for $15 bucks and refurbishing it.
