Batteries are NOT compatible with the older units.
Currently, the older units are still available. Eventually, the older units will be discontinued.

That stinks. I almost ordered one today, but wanted to read a little about it first. I have the 18V drill and also the 3/8 14.4v impact. I was hoping to add a few more 18v batteries to the collection.
I wonder if the improvements are worth stepping up to, or if I should try and find one of the old ones.
My dealer wasn't able to order one of the old ones, it just showed none available. I told him i'd let him know next week if I want one of the new ones.

The old style is still in a couple of warehouses and they are showing that there will be some delivered in the future. Given that you have the drill and the 3/8 impact, I would try and buy the CT6850 just for the battery compatability.

Chad- With a new 1/2 cordless impact coming out what does that mean for guys wanting to repair/service a "older" cordless impact?
The reason why I ask is because I bought a cordless impact gun about 2 years ago from Snap on. I use it on the weekends usually. If and when it breaks am I gonna be SOL and gonna have to upgrade?

Flat rate repair service and batteries will be available for the foreseeable future.
I personally own the 1/2, 3/8 impact and the 18 volt drill and I have no plans to upgrade my personal units anytime soon.

I want a new one, are they still around $550? I have been holding out since it was announced, but I don't have a truck dealer. Any idea when it will be available online to order?

The price did not really go up. You get 2 li-ion batteries which are $100 a piece with the old model you only got one for $555 and this one you get 2 for $650.

If I had to take a guess Id say yes. It seems like everybody is going lithium ion batteries.
Im just glad to hear that Chad says the older ones will still be serviceable. A couple years ago I paid $500 for my 1/2 gun. Shortly after that they raised the price to $555 (?) and now they want over $600. Its like they always say... everything goes up in this world dollar wise except for your paycheck. At least I have stock in snap on.

Two li-ion batteries and a tote bag. The tote bag has more value that the blow molded case that the old style came in.
The 14.4volt and the 7.2v are still ni-cad as well as the Blue Point cordless. It seems that all of the new 18 volt tools are going to be li-ion.

I think they are scheduled to arrive around Christmas. They may show up earlier being that they are in this months Hot Tools.

Ni-Cad is similar in price as Li-Ion battery cells. Li-Ion has more power than Ni-Cad and the design of today's Li-Ion battery pack has made it easy to maintain.
Milwaukee is the only brand (bosch too but not clear) to advertise their circuitry design to help regulate and protect the cells called Digital Power Management (DPM) . It even has cell temperature sensor, usually extra feature when it comes to building batteries.
I would get the Milwaukee M18 impact 1/2" 450ft-lbs over those new SO any day. Cheaper, higher quality (IMO), and more availability for battery. You can get an equivalent set on ebay or online store for ~400bucks w/ two batteries, new.

I just ordered the Milwaukee 1/2 Hi-Torque kit and the 3/8 bare tool for less than the old Snap-On. All the comments on here and elsewhere made me think going to HD for a battery, plus a larger selection of tools would be better for me. The $650 price tag sent me looking elsewhere, but I am sure its a great gun. I was waiting for details since the pics from the Florida show, but the buy in is out of my range for a single tool.
I will do a post once it comes and I break it in as I have some routine maintenance on the fleet before the real snow comes in that needs to get done.
If I had a truck guy it may be different, but I doubt I'll regret it.

We were looking at them in the hot tools on Tuesday. My dealer was ready to order it on the spot. When I inquired about the older units, they came up as none available.
Country of origin is listed as USA also along with the drill.

I didn't realize the battery type that SO advertise but if they use similar battery like the new generation Dewalt, which is called Lithium-Ion-Phosphate (Li-Fe-Po4), the impact can sustain a high power for longer period of time.
You can have the best impact design but it's dependent on the battery source.
Dewalt has leading the way for best battery source w/ their 20v line. Note that all Lithium battery pack has an output b/t 18-21 volts.

i have had one of each for a few months and no complaints. they work and the batteries work great. there is a small light than snaps right on to the battery that is freaking awesome. The impact is currently in one of the salvage yards here and he has not been able to hurt it yet. the drill is tough as well.....

Funny how similar it looks to my Matco 3/8 gun. Snap on must be sourcing them from the same company. The anvil cover looks the same with the same LED in the head, same battery look, etc..

not sure on the colors yet, but as good as the other impacts sold in colors they would be crazy not to offer them. i will make sure they know we want them in different colors.
How is the drill holding up? I'm seriously thinking about picking up one

I think that the Batteries on the unit look similar to the Milwakee. They are also rated for the same power out put at 450 ft lbs. The Miluakee I believe only runs 369.00
DONT buy this...I am gonna be getting my 3rd one in a month. If this one goes bad I will be getting a refund and going to IR. The front bearing keeps going bad. They make a really loud screeching sound. The first one I got to do about 12 tire removals.. The second I got to do 4 tires....they are big pieces.....I tried out the matco and even the battery lasts longer. I rotate 4 tires and my battery will loose bars.. That is why they give you two batteries... In my honest opinion do not buy one...Go elsewhere...

Man, those new Snappy cordless impacts sure are nice, 450 ft-lb of torque is amazing. Makes my old CT3850 with its 210 ft-lb seem like a real weakling, and that thing rips off lugnuts with no problems!
