Seems that old Snap On has come out recentley with a 16mm socket in the 1/4" drive range. Not too long ago it was the 15mm that was on top.

Now with the hansen trays that only go up to 15mm will they recall them and replace them with ones that go up to 16mm?:bounce: Dang!!! 2 more sockets that I must buy:lol_hitti

Why would you want a 16mm in 1/4 drive??? I really dont think you could apply enough torque with a 1/4 ratchet.....If you say it could be used for tight areas....I disagree....there are alot of alternatives out today to get to that tight spot

i have some of bolt and nuts use 16mm where i cant use 3/8dr because it is clearance issues. i work in dealership and i use 16mm a lot but most of parts use not high torque so i rather to have 1/4 so i can go where i can fix than have waste time to use wrench or 3/8dr where it have clearance issues. :bounce:

And when you get those all bought, they will come out with 17mm sockets, and you will need those, too!

It's all in the marketing...;)

Alot of times you have a fastener that is too snug to spin off by hand but not snug enough for a 3/8 drive ratchet. There is no NEED for 16mm, as you can use one of the 3/8's in a 1/4 body, but if you are using 1/4 tools already, its more convenient. Sometimes a 3/8 air ratchet wont fit, so you grab a 1/4 to run out those rediculous bolts... why an air ratchet? because I have run into bolts where you only have a click or two of swing, and when you dont have enough drag on the ratchet, you have a big problem.

The only thing I can remember using a 16mm on is a Ford drain plug.
School me on what uses 16mm?

I guess I rest my case. Why do you need a 16 mm 1/4" drive socket then.
I know I have a 5/8" 1/4" drive socket that I haven't used in years, the only thing I used it for was on the nut that held the battery cable on to the starter solenoid on some old GM cars.

13mm has been the toyota universal drainplug size for a while, so unless someone managed to strip out that stamped steel oil pan that's what was on there from that factory.

Good point though, I do use my 16mm sockets for something but I have never used a 16mm wrench @ work.

today my snap on guy have two 16mm 1/4dr shallow sockets in stock. i bought it and i know that i will use it for exhaust pipes to exhaust manifolds as i can use it to install the bolt on it then torque it.... also i can use it for pull transmissions on jeep where use few 16mm in tight area. cost 9 dollars but get effective for my job in transmission jobs at dealership.
