I've seen plenty of the cheap Chinese kits that work a couple times each, and I've seen Channellock decent pairs but are only one design/angle and you'd need to buy 2-4 to make it comprehensive.

So what do you guys like between the $30 cheap kit and buying $100 in pliers?

So the answer is instead of aiming for between $30 and 100, go for $150?

I'm not trying to be able to take on anything, just have decent coverage with something well made

The 4 piece Knipex set I have was cheaper than $100, Amazon had a deal on a while back.
I like the Gedore ones I have as well, bit the Knipex are better.
They are one of the few tools where going cheap really is a false economy.

We've gotten really good feedback on our 9421 Adjustable Angle Internal/External Snap ring pliers with 3 tip sizes:

They were slow to catch on, but nearly every month since introduction they've doubled in sales. I also brought in a bunch of extra replacement tips and haven't gotten a request for 1 yet.

Here is an interesting GJ thread where members show off their individual snap ring pliers collections: LINK.
