Need to get some snap ring pliers. Not sure if it's worth it to buy an entire set, so are those multi-tip ones anygood? What about brands? This is for occasional weekend use.

I have a set of Lisle inside/outside ones with various tips. They have worked very well for occassional use. If they were used in an assembly line or something, maybe not the best, but for what you describe I think they are fine.
I've got these:

They're both internal and external. Never really change the tips. No problems except maybe occassionally hitting the lever on the handle to switch from internal to external or vice versa.

+1 on that. I have the 3 piece of that one, no problems. Lots of tips and sizes to choose from for both internal and external.

Get the set bmw has, later on if you find you need something of greater cost you can always graduate up, but you probably will never need to!

Those are very similar to the Channellock brand. You might find those even cheaper at a HD. Food for thought...
As for myself, I have a set of Craftsman that includes dedicated internal and external pliers. I like them and they were only about $14.

Milbar manufactures the industry standard of snap ring pliers. At least get a straight, 45*, and 90* pair. You can find them on ebay fairly cheap. I just bought 3 brand new ones off ebay for $8, what a steal. Those interchangeable tip ones are ok if thats all you have but are kind of a novelty.
