Snapon at Sams

I was at my local sams the other day and noticed that they had a small Snapon leatherman, knife and light set. Thought this was interesting since Snapon is prided as being high end and well Sams/Walmart is budget. Is this a sign of what's to come for Snapon.

To be honest I think Snapon tools are nice but not my go to brand due to me feeling they are over priced due to them being a status symbol in the garage.

But I'm not going to knock anyone for their choices lol.

Pep boys had some stuff that was snap on too. What you mentioned along with some worklights gloves etc. Not snap on off the truck stuff. I bought a couple of tape measures. Worst ones I've ever used next to the jobsmart ones at tsc

Nothing new to see here, move along...

Snap on has prostituted its name to the Alltrade corporation for more than a few years now. Alltrade slaps the snap on name on anything from a Chinese multitool, to gloves, lights of all types, pressure washers, and vacuums etc. sold everywhere from sears, auto parts stores, Costco, etc. The items aren't really tools though.:dunno:

They've been doing that for years :dunno: I'm not one that thinks slapping their name on a flashlight means they're moving all production to China next week... ACE hardware carries Snap-On flashlights. Been that way as long as I can remember.

Got my Snap-on tape measure at Northern Tool. It is not the same tape measure they sell in the catalog. As stated, it's just licensed merchandise made by other companies, not sold on the truck, sold at other stores.

For some reason someone at Snap On thought it wouldn't damage their brand if they sold cheap Chinese trinkets with their brand on it.

I've actually seen a couple people buy the **** thinking it was really snap on quality.

Waiter : I'll take a SnapOn Big Mac with extra pickles and a Blue Point Beer

Maybe the SnapOn trucks could cater the weekend football games.

I would enjoy the above;;;; but I find the SnapOn trinket scheme hard to swallow.

Hey man...don't associate leatherman with that ****.

I'm trying to think of the only "true" rebranded multi tools. I think mac rebrands bear & sons stuff (or they did). While their knives are kind of meh their multitool is actually pretty good. Real thick steel on those "bear jaws".

What you saw here is snap on licensing their name on some chinese stuff. To that I say...well, it's free money and everyone loves free money.:dunno:

I got a sweet LED work light at Costco about a week ago. Licensed or not, it is awesome. I'm so tired of burning out halogen bulbs. 1600 Lumens

They had a Snap On compressor at my Sams last week, what a POS. I'd be embarrassed to own it

That's just licensed mdse. kinda like Harley, john Deere and others do. Snap on collects a royalty check

Licensors of a valuable mark have an obligation to protect the mark by policing the activities of licensees. That includes assuring the public that the quality is in conformity with other like-named offerings. I suspect this isn't being done properly.

anyone willing to purchase real SO products knows better. All they are doing is reaching out beyond their target market. The people that would buy that **** at the grocery stores would balk at the price of their tools. so in effect they are expanding their market by offering lower quality goods to people who would otherwise never buy their products

Seems there is a never ending supply of Snap On haters, unfortunately you have to insult me and countless other Snap On users with your general uneducated statements.

that is definitely a great way to turn off prospective new buyers for tools.

"yeah i bought a snapon knife once and that thing sucked so bad i gave it away, even the worklight i bought stopped working after 2 weeks, snapon is junk i wont buy anymore"

The mark is representative of quality. They cannot "blanket license" without proper supervision, which means allowing the mark to appear on products of similar quality. It has nothing to do with target markets.

It would be OK if SO license their name on non-tools product **** as clock, shirt, etc but not on tools like knife, compressor, etc. It will tarnish the SO name and eventually lead people to associate SO quality with HF quality. Also, non-tools product must be of high quality. Apparently SO does not seem to care about the quality of the products its name is being slapped on.

You take things far too personally.

I agree I guess he didn't understand I'm not hating on snap on. I just can't justify the purchase of their stuff and trust me the cost is not the issue for me. Well I guess I better reword that as well. I'm not hurting for the Benjamin's where I couldn't afford snap on. It's just that I won't pay inflated prices on anything.

I do own a few blue point and proto tools that I inquired here and there but never would purchase new.

I however do think it might be good for Snapon to hurt its reputation a little bit by offering these cheap tool. Might cause them loss in revenue when people have a bad taste in their mouth about these products. Which could lead to a drop in price and put their tools into more peoples hands do to them having to drop their prices.

that's the second time i've heard this, i wonder if they make their own tapes, or rebrand? or someone else makes and Snap-On gets a royalty check off it?

That is odd to find it there, though i have noticed some weird stuff, my girlfriend who's never set foot in a tool truck in her life has a Snap-On knife that she got at Coastals or some other farm and ranch store. I thought it was humorous to find it though.

I have that same light. Works pretty good in my opinion. I had been researching on the tool trucks and Amazon before I saw that one for like $35.00. I figure for that price it was well worth giving a shot.
Quite pleased thus far.

My understanding is that the Snap-On knives are rebranded Kershaws which are not the absolute best knives you can buy, but far from junk... probably better today than some modern products from "traditional" brands like Buck or Schrade. So that's one rebrand that you can't really bust them for.

I am surprised BJ's hasn't picked up some Chinese snap on stuff yet. I was there today and remembered some membership stores had been stocking snap on.
