Can you actually buy a tool box off their website? Yes I know the price is probably higher than what you could get from a dealer, but can you actually put a tool box in your shopping cart and they'll ship it to you? Is there a separate charge for shipping?

The website shows list. SO toolboxes are like cars, nobody pays list. Working with a dealer and patience can lead to great deal.

My dealer has said built-to-order boxes cost "list" price. IE: I want box KR-*** in YYY color with ZZZ accessories. If you buy something he "has", negotiation is obvious.

"List" price is kind of odd. First of all, if you use Snap-On credit, there are incentives, such as "if you finance 5k, we'll take $750 off the total cost" sort of thing. Then, there's trade in, which can be as high as original list price for your current box. The dealer can throw in other incentives as well, such as 10% of box cost as truck credit, or tools/extras thrown in with the box. Sometimes accessories are also discounted, when bought at the same time as a box. Also, dealers can have incentives to move boxes, and can net a profit as a result of taking a loss on a box.

So yes, it is possible to pay list price, as seen on the website. I've seen it done, and if that's what they want, why not. I buy used or "basically new". My new KRL1033 was on my dealers truck for a few months. Had one tine scratch on a piece of chrome trim, and already was there to see and inspect. List was $12k or so. I paid less than half of that.

EDIT: Look for scratch and dent boxes; HUGE savings are possible, for a scratch that may not be visible.

Most of this. Of course, if you buy online, you're paying list price.

Your best "right now" deal is probably going to be buying what the guy has. You may or may not be able to negotiate on a box you order. My answer to that is you should be able to, but that's up to the Snappy man. Another option is waiting for specials... when I bought my KRL722 it was on sale for $3100. I got it for less than that, and ordered the color I wanted... I ended up not getting the color I wanted, but supposedly that was because the special had ended before I pulled the trigger, and neither me nor the Snappy man had realized it.

If I were a Snappy driver and you were waving cash in my face since that's what you'd be paying buying online, I'd be happy to make a few bucks for very little work rather than risk you walking away and me making nothing. ;)

That is not always the case. Built to order custom color units can be purchased at 'sale' or 'special' prices. High volume tool storage dealers know how to make it happen. My dealer does and has worked the magic for me.

Unless he's one of those Snap on dealers (like some (not all) of the "supposed" ones around here) who scoff at people who just want a quick cash deal. Man those guys take pride over making a quick $500 bucks right then and there.

The local dealer has the truck/trailer loaded with boxes around a few times a year. That seems like the best time for deals.

Can't imagine ordering one at full retail and then paying cash. These stupid boxes are marked up insane amounts. Hence all the goofy deals and fuzzy math buying from dealers. Then you read the dolts here who think they are getting some screaming deal when the dealer offers them some silly high price for their box on trade in when they are still getting hosed through the nose. Part of the markup is the easy credit terms just like the rent to won places with $1,500 laptops you can buy online for $400. Just look for a good used KRL box on CL. It may take a month or so but you will find a box some jerk paid $8,000 for for $2,000 before long. Plenty for sale all the time by guys thinking what they paid should be reflected in the sales price...those never sell, just sit on CL. The good deals pop up but don't stay listed very long. Keep checking and you will far better off.

The best way to get a deal, is have the dealer make a note of what you want. Different models come up for dealer stock. Say you want a 1033. The dealer notes what you want. When 1033 come up as the deal for truck stock, that is when he orders. A dealer can get whatever you what for customized for stock since they are head turners. I have had two different dealers offer this to me.

That pride is annoying. I'm a businessman on the truck; I'm not here to pay anyone's bills or make friends. I pay cash, and want what I want. I'm an easy sale a lot of the time, because I already know what I want, and what I'm willing to pay. Try to sell me a $600 impact socket set, and I will laugh. Somehow that makes all the truck guys like me. :D I do enjoy BS-ing with them about the industry - Lots of retired techs.

It just shows how much room there is in the prices. :) Great prices, but not on anything I needed/wanted. Great deals on modis-ultra, but I just got a smoking deal on a used solus ultra the month before.

Quite a few people here have reported stepping on that and getting told list or a paltry savings ($500 off a $8000 box). YMMV. I think your dealer is the best shot if you give him a realistic price that he can work with and he attends conventions.

I don't really see WTF pride has to do with it.

As has been said, they're like cars... and the price tags ain't far off. There's plenty of negotiating room, no doubt more than a car dealer has on most cars in terms of profit margin. I wouldn't call a car salesman who refused to negotiate proud, I'd call him... well, I probably wouldn't call him.

If the dealer is ordering the box, it's not like it's possible for him to be worse off for selling it. It wasn't there for someone else to buy, and it's not like he can't order another for someone else because he ordered one for you. Now, if the dealer would like to assign 'several thousand dollars' as his desired profit to make a relatively simple transaction, he's welcome to do that. I wouldn't buy from him, and I reckon most others wouldn't either. Doesn't sound like a smart business move to me.

I got a big ol' honkin' KRL for less than half price on the R n' R cab Express not quite two years ago. Rather than just write off the idea of getting a deal on the R n' R Cab truck just because someone here said so, I would at least give it a shot.

If everybody thinks like you, the whole job market and economy will collapse.

Agreed...3 weeks ago I was on the Rock-n-roll Cab truck to quote out a few things I was thinking about. To make a long story short, my normal SO guy who was on the truck had already quoted me out for MUCH less then the Rock n Roll Cab truck. I walked off that truck thinking to myself "Why did I waste my time".

In speaking with my SO Guy prior to visiting the R&R Truck, the biggest benefit to ordering a box off there is they have the power to customize for "free"...so if you want a Neon Pink with Black Trim EPIQ, custom drawer configurations, and Classic Series Emblems on it...they can do it "at no charge".

I'm with Bobcatdan 100%...best deals are when you have a relationship with your guy and he has an idea on what your looking for. Works on both new and used stuff. If he knows you'd be interested in a gloss black KRL7022, if he knows someone with one who is kinda shopping for new boxes, he can play the middle man and everybody walks away happy. OR if he sees a special upcoming promo on 7022's he'll work it out with you. Best analogy Bobcatdan said and i've used before is its JUST Like buying a car, rebates, sales, promo's come and go....nobody pays list.

I know that when I was box shopping from the dealer right after the show in August he said he could give the best prices. I priced out an 68 EPIQ with SS powertop and it came to right around 6500 with tax, no trade and incentives for financing *** number of dollars. That is like 5K+ off of list. He need to move them, had three that he was trying to sell. He was a smaller dealer that had all his captial ******* in boxes.

I end up getting a year old 84 EPIQ with powertop for 6k, but only about 2500 was out of pocket.
