SnapOn CT4850HO Questions

I am considering the purchase of a SnapOn CT4850HO 1/2" Drive Cordless Impact Wrench, but I have a few questions about its capabilities.

1) Does it have enough power to remove a crankshaft pulley nut without the assistance of a crankshaft pulley nut holder tool? I know that some of the more powerful 1/2" drive guns can do this, but will this SnapOn unit be able to? Has anyone tried it?

2) How long can I expect the battery to last before it will require replacement? With light use, can I expect the battery to last several years?

3) Are there better cordless impact wrenches for the money?

Thanks!

1) Yes, I used it while doing a waterpump/timing belt job on a Ford Contour in a friend's driveway. I would have liked to do the job in the shop, but the car didn't run. At least it's only a two hour job.
2) My batteries last a day or so under heavy use, or a couple of days under normal use. You should be able to get a couple of years worth of charges out of the batteries.
3)It's expensive, but there is nothing better for the $$$.

1. I don't know but, I don't think you'll find a better cordless 1/2 gun.

2. Yes, you should get several years out of a battery. the key is not to charge them until they are completely dead. With a little planning, no problems.

3. There are probably lesser guns for less money. The 4850 is probaly the standard against which the other impacts are judged. This is one tool that Snap on got right.

We have one in our service truck at work and it definitely makes my life easier on road trips. Although it's expensive, it's worth the money and will provide you with cordless power.

I purchased one of the original old snap on ct 30 impacts when they first came out.Up until it died last year I was still useing it with the original battery that came when I bought it.Somewhere around 13 to 15 years on the original battery. Can't remember what year they came out but I know I got the first one ever sold in our area,he sold a lot more off my recommendation too.I bet it would still be going if the power inverter in my service truck hadn't fried the charger and battery.

Aww, that *****. You should keep the gun just for posterity. 13 years on a battery... that's old-school Makita territory.

Seems to me the cordless stuff is less effective on things that move and need the impact to work against the inertia.

Sorry for the late reply guys, thanks for all the advice.

I only plan to use the gun occasionally, maybe once every other month or so. With that type of use, can I still expect the battery to last at least several years as long as I keep it charged?

Thanks!

I'll keep that in mind when I'm ready to buy, thanks!

I have Ryobi NiCad 18v batteries that I use infrequently, leave on the charger and do all sorts of awful things to. They have lasted me for over 2 years now...

Do yourself a favor and get on some remote-controlled vehicle forums Those guys know about batteries and should be able to help you get the best life out of yours.

the ct4850ho is the strongest 1/2 cordless impact in the market right now, if you do get one make sure it is an HO, the ho model has 50 more foot pounds of torque (400) than the previous 4850 (350)....
