My dealer always has a 68" epiq on the truck and at least one in his warehouse and usually 2-4 on order, moves them pretty steady. He orders boxes couple times a year when they have deals. He usually has couple on order for customers as well.

I'm responsible for the service on our Snap-On torque wrenches in our manufacturing plant. Snap-On Industrial has had one torque wrench since February this year and has yet to repair it. I just sent in a CTECH wrench and it's been a couple weeks so far. I'm beyond frustrated with Snap-On...

I had 2 pocket prybars on backorder for over 6 months. SO called to see if I wanted to keep that part of the order, but I was at work and couldn’t answer. I called back the next day and they had already cancelled it. I told them I didn’t want it cancelled but they said “too late, you can order it again though… AND move to the back of a 6+ month line.” F-you.

Whatever, no big deal it’s just a tiny $12 prybar. But if that’s the kind of customer service SO has, I’m definitely not spending $2-5k+ on tools regardless of the quality or superiority of said tools. Not when others can come close with much better service.

It sounds like they woke up to the fact that after six months they probably aren’t going to get any prybars so they decided it just try cleared off their books.

Agree that it’s probably a good idea to just try to find some pry bars somewhere else

Or, re-order maybe they’ll be in in another six months.

I ordered 4 pocket prybars back in march. taking so long the authorization on my card expired and they called me to make another order. I was able to get the second order through. I got one of them, still waiting on the other three

Snap on hasn't been too bad on most of the stuff I've ordered, definitely a bit slower. Cornwell and VIM though are terrible. 6+ months I've been waiting for a vim warranty, and 3 months for 2 Cornwell picks to be warranted...ridiculous

And VIM got rid of the deal page… which was a loss. I got a lot of Matco branded VIM off the VIM deal page years ago.

I only found out about it because of Garage Journal.

+1 for missing the VIM deal page. Wonder where they clear out their inventory these days?

If you find out… message me.

I was buying a good amount of Matco for what you would pay for much lesser brands.

I got 5 different extra long bit socket sets and a bunch of other things.

Last 2 I got were on the truck being used to store tools for sale
Got a good deal on both
Been looking on Facebook for the deals , so far nothing good has come up
Tool truck in my area doesn't seem to have any epic boxes right now (odd)
Is 60% off MSRP a good deal (minor paint nicks, strapping on the truck to use for tool display, etc)?

Yes if it's without a trade. More than 50% off retail is a good deal off the truck for a new box. With my rep that's usually the it's been in inventory too long price. If you aren't financing it check on what the rebates are for financing it. Finance it and pay it off the next week for the finance rebates for 90 days same as cash, usually they are $1k or more depending on the box.

Yeah, I don't know how you guys deal with tool shortages for your work these days. Back in the day if I needed a tool, half a dozen dealership warehouses had things in stock. One place was out, call up Charlies place down the road. Only specialty items had to be ordered. Now all I hear from my friends still in business is "you're glad you're not in it anymore. Things ****!"

And not being able to get toolboxes? Geez. Everyone's hiring, oldsters retiring, can't find workers, skeleton crews - yet nobody can keep up with the demand for toolboxes? Something doesn't add up.

Need to see what it sells for used to see if you can recover your initial investment.

I just got a KRA-300 for $50 in excellent shape.
Do you really need to spend 4? ? ?
It looks like I would get back at least 77% based on some local Offer Up sellers. Plus I plan on keeping it so not as important to be able to monetize it - I will leave that to the kids when I am gone. As far as spending that kind of money for a box beyond what I need, I am on the back side of life at this point so I want to enjoy nice things, travel to warm places and eat well. I grew up poor and I wanted to think my delayed gratification would somehow payoff someday and this box represents some of that for me.

No trade. It’s definitely been sitting around so that’s one of the big reasons for the discount. I could drive for more of a discount but my dealer has been good to me in many ways so I don’t want scorch the earth in that regard. Plus he threw in a promo item (I am a real sucker for that stuff even though I know my kids will eventually put it in a dumpster) so I think it’s a win-win.

I'm waiting for two warranty sockets for at least a month, ones a bit of an oddball, that one is probably two, dealer came in empty handed again this morning.
I ask every week what's new and interesting, been flat lately.

Hopefully you're only taking into account the prices of the products which sold, since anybody can ask whatever they want on Offerup. What they sell for is the only benchmark that counts. Still though, sounds like you're getting a heck of a deal.

While I'd be happy to have a cherry kra300, that's hardly even a cart volume worth of tool storage, plus friction slides.

Could you even fit a balljoint press anywhere in one of those?

I look at a snapon tool box a lot like a pickup with leather seats. You don't NEED a snapon tool box or leather seats in a pickup, a cheaper tool box and a truck with vinyl seats do the same thing though it's nice to have the luxury. The other nice part about snapon boxes is you can add on when you are out of room especially if it's an epiq. They had a bunch of end cabinet stuff on sale at the snapon show in August last year.

I enjoy going to my snapon box every day at work. It's something I was able to afford thanks to making the right choices in life. I do get a lot of compliments on it when people are in our shop.

I'd say it's more like owning a 1/2 ton pickup vs towing a 5x8 trailer with a camry.

That camry will "get the job done". It will be slower, shorten the lifespan of the vehicle, and be less convenient. Can it be done, sure. How much is the hassle worth saving the money? You can move loose gravel on a trailer, just build a box within the rails, and line it with a tarp to contain it. That's the logic I hear when someone says to buy a Husky or similar. If you're really maxing out a box full of heavy *** tools and not just screwdrivers and blow molded cases, you want a pickup, not a camry/trailer.

I enjoy my Snap-On box as well and I am happy I have it, for the durability and longevity and quality.

That said, there is so much more to life than a tool box.

Money spent creating unforgettable memories, dining out with friends and loved ones, buying non-depreciating assets, and investing in my other hobbies, to me, are all more important than the tool box I have.

We must consider that it could be perceived as “shallow” and a waste if we were to care that others judge us by what tool box we have.

What it comes down to is this:

Do we have the tools AND the knowledge and know-how?

The box, on the other hand, is just fluff.

Who's buying the box for others? Yeah, I hear about all those lube techs but I've never seen it. Anyone I've seen buying a box for the ego or for fun when they don't need it typically have a TV from RENTACENTER too. Goobers who cant regulate their finances. Taking vacations on credit when they don't have $1000 for an emergency. New aftermarket wheels and tires for the car with the tax returns, but on food stamps. The box, the TV, they're all just symptoms, not the cause.

Most, if not all, are buying a box which fits their tools. I have a lot of tools. When you have 2 triple bay boxes, and two lockers, and two cabinets.... full? No the box ain't fluff. You need the volume and organization. And frankly the lockers are getting tight.

I will add, I thoroughly enjoy my nice tool box(es).

While I'm not the best mechanic in the world I do a pretty decent job and am the go to guy on our crew for troubleshooting. What's in the box and what I can do with it is what's gotten me to where I'm at, it's also allowed me to afford the box.

I bought my box for me, not for the att a boys. I've got 20 years left and would rather not have frustrations for the next 20 years going to a cheap box. I spent the last 3 years working out of a small box it was impossible to organize with clunky drawers I was frustrated with. My wife and I have a pretty good life thanks to our hard work.

The version I have has 8 drawers, so the bottom of the cabinet is left totally open to store “big stuff” on the bottom shelf.
That said, I think the total storage capacity is just under 12,000 cubic inches, so, the new Snap-On roll carts I believe are 16,000 cubic inches of storage by comparison.

KRSC326:
Cubic inches (cm³)16,847 (276,073)

KRA-300K
Cubic inches of storage: 11,418
Overall dimensions: 33 3/32 in long
19 5/32 in wide
37 1/2 in tall (w/casters)

Not a fair comparison to the KRSC326 as this unit is much taller.

I seem to do both. Have memories, hobbies, and a Snap on box or two. Why does it always seem like people act like it’s an either or scenario?

It’s been taking months for all the tool trucks to get inventory or warranty replacements. This has been going on for a few years now.
