SnapOn KR 1000 question

Good afternoon, all. I had reached out to Jorge at Accuride regarding the lower left deep drawer on my SnapOn KR1000, and he advised that this was a custom SnapOn glide.

Has anyone replaced this glide? Did you leave the existing drawer tracks in the box, because they are rivited? If so, how do you get the drawer glide out of the existing drawer track? It will not pull straight out, and hits a detent that is integral to the drawer glide.

Usually you would drill out the rivet. Are replacement slides available from sna?

The detent in the large bottom drawer is riveted in, but they do offer a detent kit (or did, I had replaced them in '13, dont have the box anymore). It's like a round roller, rubber or similar material. New one get riveted back in.

IIRC the drawer should come out like the others, there should be a screw to remove at the end of the slide and they should pop up & out with some fidgeting.

2x. Drill the rivet out and replace the slide, you will have to rivet the new one in. My rivets were aluminum and drilled out fairly easy.

But, the fit is so tight at the rear that I can't work it out without scratching the jeebers out of the drawer. So... how is it done?

From what I remember, you have to loosen both slides at once from the drawer, then remove the drawer from the rails on one side then the other. It's a pain in the ***.

I think when I did this a while back, it was:

1) remove rivet (or screw in your case) in drawer on both sides
2) tilt front of drawer up to free front and middle tab of slides
3) pull drawer forward to release back tabs of slides

Hopefully someone else has done it more recently

Totally agree about steps 1) and 2).

But, step 3), the tab goes the other way, facing backward. You need to push the drawer in to release it.

Even when I do that, and force the sides of the drawer inward to get the tab to the outside, it's really tight and gouges against the drawer. It's also a bit concerning to deform the sides of the drawer that much.

There's got to be a better way. I wonder how the factory installed these during construction??

You are right - I stated that wrong. I looked at my same slides on a chest and confirmed. It was not hard to change on my box. if it is too much force for your likes, slightly bend the back tab out slightly and then try removal.

Great info all, thank you! After taking one of the upper drawers out, I agree with it being a pain to put them back in.

Can anyone help out with a part number on the glides for the aforementioned lower left bottom deep drawer? I contacted Mr. Jorge at Accuride, and he relayed that these are customer from SnapOn. The glide is marked with an Accuride logo. I'm not having any luck with my local SnapOn guy (going through a friend).

8-688S is the number for the slide itself, per this link. May have to call Snap-on as the number doesnt work on their website like some others.

I am working with the original owner of my KR1000 to get new slides from Snap-On. The slides have been on backorder since January and still haven't shipped. They blame it on COVID,of course

I got the slides from SO and the detant kits from Accuride. WRT delays, I have been waiting on slides for my KR7022 for a while, keeps being pushed out a month at a time...
