I'm currently cleaning all my slides and revamping some things on my krl box and I noticed the left side sheetmetal of the support center isn't attached to the "S" beam that comes up vertically.
If you look in the picture u can see how I can pull the left left side away from the center support.

I'm not sure if it's supposed to be like this to allow for some flew or what. I shined a flashlight down in there and there doesn't seem to be any spot welds. So it's not like the spot welds popped loose.
Maybe it is supposed to be like this. Superspuddave suggested on another thread I had about the box to pop rivet it a couple times which seems like a good idea. I just wanna make sure it's not supposed to be like that first.

They all wiggle, that is a Matco selling point against SO boxes. A Matco dealer trying to sell his box to a SO owner will tell you are to wiggle to support. When it moves, he will go and on how matco's "shelve" prevents that making it overall a better box.

Haha that's funny...so if I rivet it I guess it will be as good as a Matco box. That piece of sheetmetal pushes against the support once the drawers are in and I'm pretty sure the entire wall structure itself doesn't move;)

Lad at work was empting an old box and filling a new one and the tool box van man removed the draws, to help him empty the old one, and showed us. He had mentioned it on the van, while showing us the cut sections of how the box is assembled and one of our lads said that he was talking bollx and all older boxes were all welded construction. The tool box in question was approx 10 years old. However logically you couldnt spot weld it as you couldnt get it down the seem, could you?

Not to side track the thread too much, but what are you going to re-lube the slides with? I've used the search function for Snap-On ball bearing slide lubrication and the answers range from either oil or grease (Super Lube) to leave 'em alone. I sent SO customer service an email earlier today with a few questions I had regarding KRL slides (#8-05388ALRS). Snap-On verifiyied for me that current KRL slides are made in the USA and regarding lubrication "The ball bearing slides should not need any lubrication. If you do add lubriction to the slides they will collect dirt and they will not work properly. You can try and blow them off with air, to remove any dirt that may have collected in the slides".

ENRARE.....I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do as far as oil/lube

Part of me wants to put a little something on them. I'm honestly not sure yet. It has been on the back of my mind tho....ughhh
I know I'm gonna definetely spray them with that crc dry lube. It almost dries like a thin powder. Wouldn't collect any dirt or dust. May put a dab of super lube in....I don't know

my box (snap on) had some type of clear grease on it, so i used some pool/spa grease i had here that seemed to be the same or similar product.

I use SuperLube on my slides. It doesn't seem to attract dirt much at all.

Referring to the clear grease.

Wonder if that "red lube of love" that everyone puts in their ratchets would be allright?

I speak from many years of KRL owenership and my experience is leave em alone. Lube will attract dirt like mentioned and will gum up making it worse. The only exception is boxes that came from a body shop and are FULL of body shop dust cakes, Then clean and dry only. Trust me, the drawers will feel fine once you throw a hundred pounds of tools in each of them.

KRL's slides feel stiff when un loaded. If you must, clean and dry them only.

Oh. Oops! Well. Mine is home kept in my garage. Not too much dust. What did they say to lube with?

No lube of any kind. Dry. With any lube it seems to either make a snotty mess and eventually, after a while make the drawer slides stiff and sticky requiring more frequent cleaning.

If I was starting from scratch with stripped down dry slides, I might try LPS-1.

Back on topic to the center wall part. Still debating if I should stick some rivets in the center of the wall to the support beam

Are there any spot welds on the center wall holding the panels together below the loose section? I'm trying to determine if the spots welds are supposed to be there and if the assembler forgot to put them there.

If u look at this picture the bottom of the wall(here ur looking at the right side)
There is a lip on the bottom....that bottom lip on the loose side is spot welded along the bottom lip. It's just the center vertical support that it's not attached to

Would the rivets interfere with anything if you put them in?

And would the rivets stop the looseness?

I contacted through a local franchise rep the Snapsters on the non-spot welded upright 'issue' in the past. A Snapster engineer confirmed that some (maybe all or lots) of the uprights in these units are not welded. The actual build drawing was forwarded to me as verification.

My preference are carefully, and not excessively, greased slides using Super Lube. This is a friction 101 class. Dry is not going to beat greased.

Yes the rivets would stop the looseness of the wall. The thing is tho once the sliders and drawers are in it pushes the wall tight against the inside pillars so I doubt it would really matter.
I'd have to see where the sliders sit at in the wall and put the rivets in the little bit of a gap between each slider

My concern would be that if you rivet it and, down the line somethine fouls , it a get out of jail card on the warrenty? Ya know how these companys work " if you hadnt done this then this wouldnt happen"

I'm gonna leave the wall alone. Once I have the drawers in I'm gonna see of it still moves.

Other than that I am gonna pick up some 1.5" hole plugs and plug all those stupid big holes on the bottom of the box Don't know why they are there besides for mice to crawl inside n make a nest
