Snapon Master Series Changing Trim Color?

My snapon guy has a new KMP1022 in stock that's grey with purple trim he's trying to move. I like really like the 1022, the layout is prefect for my work junk. I'm just not wild about the purple though am wild about saving some money. Is the trim on the master series anodized or is just a sticker over chrome like some of the matco boxes? If it's anodized has anyone bought a roll of wrap material and changed their trim colors?

In case anyone is curious it's anodized aluminum and not easily changeable. The color combo grew on me and it was a decent enough deal to just pull the trigger on.

purple is great if you are a Sacramento Kings fan. Weird otherwise. I hope this isn't a shot over the bow that homes are going back to those weird colors like Avocado Green, Harvest Gold, Ghetto Purple, Burnt Orange, Black and Yellow Jail Bond, Red and White Hamburger Joint, etc..

You won't even notice the purple in a couple weeks. It'll just blend into the background.

I like a splash a color here and there. The world has become so bland with all the neutral colors. Most cars on the road are a non-color - somewhere one the white-silver-gray-black color palette. My understand is that those colors are easier to sell because they're not polarizing. I guess that could one good thing that comes out of the lower-inventory levels kept at dealers - more cars will be ordered by the first owner and they're more likely to choose a color rather than the silver car they can drive away today.

Our neighborhood is filled with gray and tan houses. We went with yellow! They had a straw color included at the base price. We tried to convince ourselves that it was close enough to yellow, but we finally upgraded to the level that had a real yellow and I'm glad we did. We toyed with the idea of red siding.

I have to ask about one of your statements - "the layout is prefect for my work junk."
How do you know that? I suffer from paralysis by analysis. I can't eyeball a toolbox and determine how well it will work for me without at least starting to move some of my tools into it. Do you have things in separate drawers now that this box will allow you to combine? Vice versa? One drawer for phillips drivers and one for torx? Metric and SAE tools? I'm serious...I want to know. I also want to know after you've had it a few weeks if your assessment was correct.

Here's the only picture I have of it.

Snapon doesn't list the purple trim in their print catalog though if you search the website for AZDL which is the color code with a part number they list everything in this combo. I probably could have gotten everything in a bottom box for now though ordered the top to make sure I can get one in the right color. I didn't want to get stuck with a high dollar bottom box I couldn't get a matching top box for down the road. Now I'm done worrying about a tool box for years.

I went through my current tool box with a tape measure and measured the minimum drawer height for all my tools to fit and be organized such as wrenches in racks. I made a list with minimum drawer sizes and drew a picture of the box I thought I was buying labeling what would go where. I haven't done it with this box though probably will before I move in. The only stuff I have that will fit in 2" deep drawers are screw drivers, machinist tools, and some of my wrenches. Everything else needs at least a 3" deep drawer. With this combo the bottom box has 1 2" speede drawer with dividers similar to a lista, and 2 rows of 2" drawers in the top box. Wanting a minimum of 2" drawers really ruled out a lot of boxes.

I think it looks great. On my KRL-1022 I find the bottom and deep side drawers become junk drawers.

I don't know if that color combo would be my first choice, but it's a nice looking box.
At the end of the day, toolboxes get way too much attention. They merely hold the tools...and it's the person using the tools, not the tools themselves that make the difference. Toolboxes are 2 degrees of separation from the thing that matters the most - you.

That is true. I look at a high end tool box a lot like a pickup truck with heated and cooled leather seats. You don't NEED it though if you enjoy it, it makes you happy, and you can afford it why not? I figure I have 20 years left on my tools, it should be enough room till I retire, I can afford it, I like it, and going to it will remind me my hard work is paying off. Also filling it with some more specialty junk will get me more of the brain power instead of sledge hammer swinging tasks.

You keep referring to your tools as "junk" I love my tools, LOL.
The colors aren't bad, not my first choice by far but I could live with it at the right price, my Epqi is gloss black with green trim, I dig it and he wanted to move it, shows all the grease and scratched though.

doesn't look too bad really. different. I'd use it. The large bottom left drawer I use for cases, same with the deeper drawer at the bottom. Cases, sets like slide hammers, big sockets, etc.

In 20 years it will be your gimmick. I worked with a guy for a time, he was an owner/operator of a pink log truck. I asked him why a pink truck, he said when he got started he'd purchased an older truck from an outfit that had red trucks, the paint was all oxidized and instead of buffing it out he just left it alone. Guys would rib him about a pink truck, so when it came time to order his 'brand new' ride, he custom ordered it in pink.

He'd had three more since then, all pink. Even went so far as to custom paint a Ford pickup to match. From lemons he made, well, pink lemonade. He is remembered forever

From my understanding master series boxes only come with chrome unless its a special edition. Color trim is not easily ordered and most regular dealers can't or just don't know how to. I heard the rock and roll cab trucks have more part #s for custom trims so they could order it.

Even once you get the trim you will destroy the old trim getting it off so no chance of resale and you need a special snap on crimp tool to put it back on. The trim is around $100 a drawer.

I've looked into it myself, I decided its too time consuming and expensive I'd rather just buy a new box.

I'm not sure that's the case. They list 6 trims and 13 colors in the catalog and several other options if you dig around when you figure out the color/ trim color code just search the part number with the color/ trim combo behind it and the item shows up. The grey and purple is color/ trim code azdl, everything is available in that combo besides 1 side box.

I agree it's a gimmick, I'll call it the power ranger box as a joke and enjoy going to it.

These boxes must've been a show special, I'm seeing them everywhere, including my local truck. I don't think it looks too bad though.

I'd have to have classic red if I was buying a box.

These special colors are show specials that the salesmen get deals on after the show is over. My guy had a couple odd color combos as well.
