Alrightey, well I'm new here.

I've got an older snap-on ratchet that I picked up at a swap meet a couple years ago, worked great for a while but now sometimes it seems to jam and it wont ratchet at all, and turning from on to off is sometimes tough or impossible. So does it need rebuild/does anyone rebuild these? Or am I just better off buying a new one next time the Snap-on truck comes around? Don't have a bunch of info on it since it's in my toolbox at work right now, but it looks like this with a longer handle

I would get a rebuild kit off the snap-on truck or online, the ratchet will be like new.

Open it up, clean it out and re lube it. 9 out of 10 times that does the trick.

yup
open it up for a cleaning and relube
if anything looks damaged then put it all in a baggie and give it to the SO guy
thats what I do and my SO guy likes it because when he rebuilds it I have cleaned it up and done half of the work for him

is there any chrome peeling? if so send it in. if you like the way it feels then get it rebuilt. you will get a new 80 tooth ratchet in trade if you send it to snap on.

I just got two rebuild kits in the mail this week. Emailed snap on with my address and ratchet numbers and they sent them right out for free.

FWIW, I know Snap-on will give you a rebuild kit for free, but when I send them ten dollars for the kit for a flea market ratchet, I just feel better about it. That's just me. Your results may vary.

BTW, the F732 I just traded for, the teeth were toast. Worst I've ever seen and no amount of cleaning would have helped. The PO admitted to often putting a cheater pipe on an angle-handle flex-head 3/8" ratchet. I felt like I was saving an abused child.

Now, I have to feel guilty about sending the new Proto flex head and the Powr-Kraft straight handle into such a dysfunctional environment.

I'm with Jack, I buy my Snap-On ratchets second-hand and consider $10 for a rebuild kit to be a deal.

That said, hard to think of a ratchet that I felt I HAD to rebuild. Just like the value of a 'new ratchet' for $10. :)

Pulled it apart today, there's one tooth that's broken off inside that was obviously causing it to jam up. Pulled the piece out, cleaned it and oiled it back up and it works ok, I'll definitely be ordering a rebuild kit though.
