Good evening,

The wife recently got into ceramics, we basically cleaned out an entire house worth of greenware. Anyway, we were talking to the owners and they said they also had a kiln, we snagged it tonight. My issue thus far, can't find a manual, the company doesn't seem to exist anymore, and moss has somewhat over taken the unit on the outside edges.

I plan on taking apart the control unit and I've already vacuumed out anything loose. Does anyone have any familiarity with kilns and lead me in the right direction to repair or replace.277f14b49e9f51aa572b002458b042bc.jpg248d22ff7cb5827ad2dd294f311a1f19.jpga9d559adef15a065d930875a72420d93.jpg

What makes you think it does not work? I can't tell a lot from the pictures but it looks like it is just a heating element with a temp adjust which is probably a thermostat, and a timer. There is a company called The Ceramic Shop, in Norristown, PA that has replacement elements for SNO Industries kilns. They can probably answer your questions. I was, surprised how little current it draws. That thing is only around 950 watts., way less than a space heater.

I'm not afraid of the working aspect, I was more afraid that the moss did some type of damage, or at high temps that it would ignite and be damaging. Basically is there a kiln checklist of what I should look for that could be problematic before I turn this on.

I would assume you would clean out the mold before firing it up. Try bleach. I am sure the temperatures in the kiln would turn what is left to ash. A self cleaning home oven does it at around 800 degrees. A kiln gets a lot hotter than that.

Thanks for the tip, I'm going to pull off the control unit, clean that up and check the wiring, anything left inside the kiln is getting ashed.
