Whats a snow blower?

Jason

LOL, good one...:D

I had a friend that lived up in the GWN...Edmonton Alberta to be exact and his theory was to fasten a snow shovel to the front of his pickup and start driving South.

He knew he had gone far enough to consider re-locating when someone asked him 'what the hell is that thing on the front of your truck'? Unfortunately he passed on and never had a chance to test his theory..:(

My neighbors are pretty awesome. The winter I had my knee replaced, I never shoveled once. The following winter, after breaking my back, I never shoveled. That winter, a new neighbor bought a monster machine that is overkill. He always does the neighborhood sidewalks. And I know, but haven't caught him yet, he has done my drive a couple times this year. I have told him, the other guy with a big snowblower, I am leaving a gas can out for them.

Now I know I need to get busy and finish my killer single stage hotrod...

I have a small cabin in Northern NM. Some winters we get little snow, others, a ton. My neighbors have a snow blower and I can tell whether it snowed a bunch overnight before I even get out of bed. They're out there at the crack of dawn running that thing. That being said, we got around 4' overnight a few years back. My wife was 7 months pregnant so I figured I'd better clear the drive just in case. I got out there with a shovel and my neighbor just happened to start his blower at around the same time. Working at a normal pace, I ended up finishing my longer drive before he finished his. He ended up having to replace sheered bolts once or twice which I think made it significantly slower. It was a lot of work on my part but needless to say, it got done and rather quickly too. In saying all this, I put a plow on my ATV and with 3 passes, I clear my entire drive in about 10 mins....takes longer to let the ATV warm up than it does to clear the snow. I still shovel the deck and such (kind of difficult getting the ATV up there!) but that plow has been great.

I have a zero snow policy at the house, if it is paved, it is bare. That means snowblowing and then going back out with the metal snow shovel and scraping. Nice squared off corners. I even snow blow along the curb. Only house on the block that can see its curb.

Justanengineer,
Not sure where in NW Indiana you are ? I live in northern Indiana (Near South Bend). Most of the NW corner of Indiana gets a LOT more than 2-3 inch twice a year snows. The average is about 50inchs a winter.. We had 15 inches for December already. The lake effect snow off lake Michigan adds a lot of snow to the area. You wouldnt broom off most of the snows we get. :)

Yea, we got that 15 inches a few weeks ago, freaky early and freaky amount. The broom took care of it in two go-rounds which was pretty easy considering that 15 inches took a full day to drop. A long bristle straw push broom works wonders and is a helluva lot cheaper, faster, and easier than a blower.

FWIW Bob, this is what I grew up with, ~2' dropped overnight on an almost weekly basis. That Firebird gets driven 51 wks/yr here, and I regularly drive it around Chicago in winter on ZR rated tires.

I live in the heart of snow country and haven't use my snowblower in any recent memory. I have been doing all my snow removal with a pen.

I live on the east slopes of the Cascades in central Oregon. Where one should never attempt snow removal with out diesel powered equipment.
