snow blower

i need a 2 stage snow blower.

im looking at the craftsman.

any thoughts or idea?

best snow blower for the buck, i also dont want to spend more than a grand.

I would look at Toro or Ariens. I would seriously consider looking on Craigslist, garage sales, etc. for those used also. Plenty of people around me getting rid of them at estate sales, moving down south, etc.

And most importantly if you don't do your own repairs then look and see how convenient the dealers are to your location.

If you are looking Craftsman, the Lowes Troy bilt are nearly identical, basically just the heated handgrips or power steering, shoes and headlight make the difference. I bought @ Lowes when they had a great sale, and then used a 10% off coupon. I really like mine, even if it uses a generic engine. The Toros are NICE, but $$$. They will last a lot longer though. I just retired My 20 YO Toro.

The older Toros are built like brick **** houses. My folks have one from the early 70s and its still going strong.

The new ones they carry now at most big box stores feel like they are made from tin foil compared the the old iron!

No brand preference from me today, but I would recommend hitting some auctions right now during the dog-days of August. Good, used snow-blowers are cheap when the sun is beating down and people are hot and tired of standing around waiting to bid.

I bought a troy bilt from lowes two years ago and last year my mom bought the same one. Works great and is built pretty decent.

I would search Craigs List for a two stage snow blower. I see them all the time for sale there and a lot of them are really nice ones. I think a lot of guys buy them and then just don't realize how big a machine they are to use and store.

im leaning towards the troy build with the treads because i such a hill on my driveway.

The ones with treads **** if you ask me. Much rather have wheels. Stud them or put chains on them and works much much better than treads.

I had an older Ariens when I lived in NE. It was built like a tank. My neighbors had new models with higher HP ratings that couldn't keep up with that old Ariens.
