How much snow are you shoveling every year? Do you have a lot?
I have three plastic shovels, and they all wore out the metal scraper bar over time. As each one wore down to the point where it was no good, I drilled out the pop rivets and removed the metal scraper.
I have not had a metal scraper on any of the three shovels for at least three years now, and other than the plastic being worn down a tiny bit, they are all still moving snow just fine.
I use a snow blower on the driveway, but for everything else, like the porch steps, walkways, deck, patio and around the gutter downspouts we use the shovels. Unless the snow is only an inch or two, and then I use the shovels on the driveway because they work better than the blower.
If you don't have a lot of shoveling to do, maybe you don't need the metal scraper part anymore, like I don't. And the best part is that I don't have to deal with the scrape marks anymore on any of the surfaces that we do use the shovels on.
