I have a SNOW Model 200 tapping head attached to the spindle of a vintage Delta drill press that I purchased, and it works perfectly. I would like to safely remove it (the tapping head is worth $$) but I don't know how. I've tried looking this procedure up online, but with no luck. Does anybody here have any experience with installing or removing these? According to the prior machine shop owner, it's been mounted on the drill press for at least 20 years because it was always used to do one single job. And he had no idea how to remove it either.

Hard to tell from photo. Looks like it might be clamped on the quill, loosening that and look for Jack screws to open the clamp. Is there a window in the quill that you could get a wedge in to knock out the mt?

I agree with the quill clamp, but the spindle could be a 3JT or other. The drill press model number should be a clue to the spindle mount type.

It does have a quill clamp. You can see the machine screw sticking out of it above the badge in the photo. I loosened it up, but didn't want to start banging on anything before I had some clue about how it is supposed to come apart. I don't want to risk damaging anything by doing something stupid.
