So all I'm lacking is 1/2 drive deep sockets...just go impact?

Is there any point in getting non-impact 1/2 drive sockets?

My entire set of sockets is Craftsman's Easy-To-Read Laser sockets.

All I'm lacking are 1/2 drive deep sockets. I'm thinking I should just go impact. I've heard that some brands of impacts are thicker than their non-impact counterparts though.

I'm currently looking at Sunex. Are they thicker than normal non-impact 1/2 drive sockets?

Sunex and Grey Pneumatic Impacts (along with most other impacts) will be thicker walled than their non-impact equivalent. Both are very good quality for the money, but I would also look at the Duo Sockets by Grey. Same size as chrome, but built to withstand impact abuse.

Yes but if you need thinner you can usually use chrome std with adapters. I have deep impacts instead of chrome works so far for me.

Chances are since you're using 1/2 inch drive, you'll have room for an impact socket. There are always exceptions though. Why not just buy Craftsman 1/2 drive deep chrome sockets when there's a sale?

A lot of the thicker walls on impact sockets come from manufacturers sharing blank sizes. Say 15 and 16 mm share the same blank size, the 15 will have thicker walls than the 16mm since they're both cut from the same size blank.

Chances are I will wait to do that, but I was looking at getting some impacts anyway, and I could kill two birds with one stone for now.

I'm eyeballing the Sunex 29 piece kit.
