thats terrible they are still using out of date drum brakes.

Why, they are cheap, easy to service, have less change of getting something in the pad material. Also it is very easy to increase surface area of a drum brake vs a disc system.

Now its time to piece together a SO set vs. spending a ton on the truck

Damm late on this one...how much shipped was it...just rub it in lol

He has them up for sale almost every week at the same price. Just keep checking his ebay listings and you will most likely find them listed again in a short time.

And it was $8.49 shipped... just to rub it in. :D

GM never could figure out how to build a reliable parking brake with rear discs. The old Eldorados and similar had the problem in the '70s, GM brought it back on the '99 body style and abandoned it in '05. However I was looking at a newer 1500 at the gas station the other day w rear discs again.

Once you've been into drums a few times they're not that scary. I don't mind them so much, except that visual inspection of shoes is not available at a glance, and with semi-floaters seems the ID of the drum always rusts permanently to the axleshaft flange, requiring pulling the whole axleshaft to stick the whole damn thing in the shop press.

I have one of those '99 Silverado's and can confirm the parking brake setup *****. Having driven trucks with both rear disks and drums I can also confirm that in my experience, rear disks do make a significant difference in stopping ability, especially on a full size truck.

Just my opinion but in this day and age, there is no good excuse for a new car or truck to come with rear drums. especially a 30-40k plus car\truck. No way in hell would I want to pay that much for a new vehicle with rear drums.

I don't understand the problem with drums.. As a parking brake they are superior to discs. That is pretty important on a 7,000lb truck with a 10,000+ lb trailer.. Are you are one of those guys that thinks 'park' is sufficient with no parking brake? The only things I don't like about drums is they are a bit of a pita especially the first time you work on an unfamiliar system but after doing VW drums a dozen times now they are super easy. They also fill up with dust but that keeps it off your wheels.

Just got the last one of three recently listed. If you missed out, keep checking as there are more re-listed at random times/quantity. Price did go up to $7.99 plus $2.50 shipping, but still a good deal.
