Will probably be one of the most successful ideas they've had.. to be honest, this is FAR better than some of the lighting ideas they were throwing around to develop.

Should make you dewalt guys happy. Glad we could help :)

I think the funniest part is when the guy says "through the research that WE've done"

(Dear Dewalt - you're welcome. Signed, Milwaukee's product development team)

Who cares? Milwaukee is Chinese owned. If the Chinese quit copying stuff their entire manufacturing infrastructure would fit in a single WalMart.

How's this different than the lights made by Pelican etc. I'm not sure I would call this a Milwaukee invention.

Let Milwaukee pay for R&D, then copy the design and save many, many thousands...

Why do you think HF is so successful?

I have the Milwaukee version and love it. If I had the DeWalt battery system then I would have gone that route.

So My dads' 1963 radial arm saw was made where, ?

Same place my dad's early 50's one was...

This from the DeWalt site:

1922 Raymond E. DeWalt, then superintendent of Seabrook Farms, perfects the first radial arm machine for the purpose of providing more versatility in woodworking operations.

1924 DeWalt Products Company is formed with plant and offices located in Leola, Pennsylvania. Their product is an electric universal woodworking machine known as the DeWalt "Wonder-Worker."

1929 DeWalt Products Co. moves to a new, and for those days, outstandingly modern plant and office building in Lancaster, Pennsylvania..."

milwaukee invented the tripod light? umm ok......maybe their version of it.

i have a tripod light with with two lights on top that i have had for at least 10 years. yea, it has two 500 watt quartz lights and it plugs in but it is still a tripod light. who made it? i don't know but it wasn't milwaukee.

i have dewalt stuff and like it. the milwaukee stuff just doesn't fit what i like. the next guy likes milwaukee, the next makita, bosch and on down the line.

i just don't get the rabid frenzy some people have for or against a certain brand and their response to it.

The Pelican lights (except for 1 model) are nothing like either of these.. the one that is a tripod is about $700 and not based on a cordless tool platform. Are they similar? I guess you could argue that they are both on some sort of tripod, and led.. aside from that, Milwaukee's design was a far departure from a somewhat vaguely similar Pelican model, but vastly improved upon, in terms of lighting output, runtime, and unique to a cordless platform that allowed people to swap in new batteries. this is just a blatant copy.. I've had the other more popular pelicans. They are nothing like either the Milwaukee or this new dewalt. And I believe pelicans lights were acquired from buying out another company. They were not an in house design.

Really.....

cofounder of TTI Horst Julius Pudwill

Horst Julius Pudwill cofounded Techtronic Industries, a Hong Kong-based manufacturer of power tools and floor-care products. Its Hoover vacuum-cleaner brand is so iconic that many people use it as verb, such as to hoover the carpet.

He came to Hong Kong from Germany in the mid-1970s to promote Volkswagens. He started a trading company in 1978 and three of the original six people remain there today--including Roy Chi Ping Chung, who retired as executive vice chairman in 2011 but remains on the board.

His first two decades in business were similar to the careers of many other entrepreneurs in Greater China--lining up suppliers for Western brands and eventually manufacturing for them under contract.

Techtronic Industries started as a supplier to the hand tool industry and today it is one of the world's largest manufacturers of power tools and
power equipment.

Pudwill chairs Techtronic and is no longer involved in the company's day-to-day operation, leaving it to the CEO he hired in 2008, Joseph Galli, and his designated successor Stephan, his only child.

just as serious of a post as yours.

google image search "tripod light". nope....neither milwaukee or dewalt show up in the hundreds of images on the first page.

try "tripod work light". nope neither an m or d show up again but pelican does

try cordless work light. milwaukee shows up about halfway down the page.

now everyone's search may be different but it is pretty safe to say that neither milwaukee of dewalt are the only ones producing tripod work lights. they just have their own version of them.

is it great that they came up with them? sure it is but there is very little that is new out there. just a slightly different twist on an old theme.

for sure nothing to get ones ******* all wadded up about.

Oh look, another thread full of Milwaukee shilling by kctyphoon, what a surprise. Tripod lights have existed in some for or another for decades. Just because Milwaukee stuck a battery and an LED on a telescoping tripod doesn't make them special or unique.

So you made it sound like Milwaukee is the only company to ever have such an idea and that B&D had to have been just outright copying them. Sure doesn't seem that way based on the evidence.

I love how you guys change the narrative to fit your arguments.. answer me this, if you placed the Milwaukee light next to ANY OTHER "tripod light" that you're referring to, do either of them look as if they are a DIRECT copy off one another? A DIRECT COPY..

Now, place the dewalt light next to the Milwaukee and ask yourself the same question. Stop bringing up what country the products are made, who the CEO is, what color the salesman's pants were, and "tripods were invented 100 years ago".. does it seem as if the dewalt is the same design as Milwaukee's wrapped in yellow, with minor tweaks? Umm, yea..

Dewalt had multiple "stupid" designs on their table they were considering. My "input" on their website was this - the reason why Milwaukee's lights are so successful is because, they don't have a light with a radio built into it, or a string of Christmas tree lights that plug into a cordless base, and they don't have a light that transforms into a merry-go-round to entertain the kids.. they are just good lights..

Seems they came to their senses, but they coulda put their own twist on it..

Umm... that's exactly what made them special and unique.. good enough for Dewalt to copy wouldn't ya say :)

They are also advertising a cordless compressor now.. a YouTube video (not sure if it was Dewalts) called it the worlds first.. with the exception of the fact TTI designed one for Ridgid and it's already out.,

oh, wait, it was your idea for them to copy it you say. it is now clear how it was your input that changed their mind.

hell, i guess it was my thread on the 18-20 volt max battery adapter that caused them to come out with that as well using that logic. maybe it was but i am not going to take credit for it. :spit:

Lmao.. I never remotely claimed my input changed anything.. they wanted input, a forum full of people gave their own. If you would have seen some of the crazy ideas they were considering, most people probably would have said the same thing I did.

Does the dewalt look to be a direct copy of the Milwaukee? Yes or no?

It's a tripod, with a light stuck on it. There's only so many ways you can make a folding carry-able tripod with a light on it. There's nothing special about the Milwaukee one, or the DeWalt one. If you really want to get super pedantic about it, I could claim Milwaukee is simply copying Energizer, who INVENTED the battery powered light in 1899!

TTI is Chinese. The fact that one of the founders is British is moot. They're based in and operate out of China ergo its a Chinese company. Furthermore nobody outside of China can wholly own a company in China. That's why companies are forced into "partnerships".

Recently we dug up a Chinese company that demonstrated on it's website several dozens of work lights they could offer. I found it interesting browsing through the selection I recognized great many lights sold under many different brand names both in Europe and US.

Each rep tells you - mine is genuine, avoid cheap replicas. It's our design.

Really?

Haha. Wow.

Dewalt was a German company purchased by a United States based conglomerate.

Milwaukee was an American company purchased by a Hong Kong based conglomerate.

Look up the founder and current leadership of Tectronic Industries. I believe you will find they are British.

The Chinese have very little to do with Milwaukee besides housing some of their manufacturing.

Milwaukee and Dewalt both manufacture fine electric tools. Milwaukee's battery technology is demonstrably superior but competition is good in every industry. It makes things better and cheaper for all of us.

I won't buy an inferior product just because it is made where I was born. Also capital flows have no respect at all for National boundaries. The shareholders of both conglomerates share in the profits and couldn't give a fig what country they come from.

It's fine to be a curmudgeon. I do it often but with all due respect, consider realigning your worldview with reality.

Totally agree with this sentiment. I hate this tribal Milwaukee vs. DeWalt vs whoever bashing. ALL of these companies make some of their products outside the US.

Nothing like being a hypocrite about "buying American" and then buying Chinese steel for your buildings -or- your hats.

This is entirely possible.

Looks to me like the 2130 stand light is made by Sunstrong.

This looks to be their website:

If you go to the 4th slide on their site, it would seem that while they claim, "Effciency is our strength," correct spelling is not.
