So, do you think this is the ground?

Hi,

I had a new roof put on in the fall & I stopped at grainger to get a new roof vent fan. Anyway, since its getting warmer & today is a cool day, I figured I would plug in the electrical.

I popped off two covers that i was going to tie into & I cant quite figure if these are the ground wires (silver wires sticking outside of the box...)

The house was built in 68 & I guess things were done differently then.

There is definitely no ground inside the boxes.

Thanks,
Rich

If the outlet is "Back Stabbed", I'd remove the connections and use the screws on the side of the outlet. The back stabbed ones tend to get loose over time, and create a possible fire hazard.

To answer your question,
Yes,
The silver wires are part of the ground circuit.
They are there to help tie the flex covering to the box.

I like to wrap them a little tighter into the grooves in the flex for better contact and a neater look.
