SO fathers day ideas

Looking for a SO gift idea for my dad for father's day. I'd like to order him something small (<$200 msrp) using my student discount.

Here's the skinny... My dad is one hell of a good mechanic. He works by day as a pipefitter and by night as a shadetree mechanic. HE CURRENTLY OWNS NO SO PRODUCTS! The majority of his tools are Craftsman, which is fine, but I have recently bought a fair bit on SO as an aircraft mechanic student and have found them an absolute pleasure to use. I'd like him to have some of this same enjoyment.

So, what are the must have SO items? Ratcheting screwdrivers are probably out as I just ordered a whole flock of them for myself and my sales rep might get suspicious that I'm selling them on eBay.

Some screwdrivers, being sure to include some Phillips. If you can manage it, include a couple of long ones, straight and Phillips. Long ones aren't used tood often but they are so nice when needed.

Yeah, screwdrivers. My Snappy rep came by with a 4 piece set, soft grip Grey handles for $49. I'm going to order a set tomorrow when Snappy comes by.

Don't waste your money, Craftsman is fine, If he's as good as you say he can rebuild an engine with a pair of Channel locks and a straight screwdriver.

I'd get him a FLF80 3/8 drive flex head ratchet. Snap on has a pair of three position slip joint pliers that are neat. Hell, get him one of those 3 piece pliers sets with long nose, cutters, and slip joint. I guess what I would try to do is get him a sampling of tools unique to Snap on. Pliers, F or S80 series ratchets, screwdrivers, heavy duty torx, flare crowfeet, etc.

I say start w/ some ratchets. Probably one of the most used tools in the box. although if he only have craftsman screwdrivers, that would be another good choice.

Since he's already working and presumably equipped with basic tools, try something like the long handle comfort-grip flex head ratchets in 3/8 and 1/4 - FHLF80 and THLF72. That comes in pretty close to your price point, and most importantly, offers capability you can't get in Craftsman.

I'd say get him a set of screwdrivers and heavy duty torx bits then go from there maybe some pliers or flare nut wrenches

I just bought a set of Witte screwdrivers which I'll give my wife to give me on Father's day

A fine tooth ratchet or two after only using the rough stuff previously is sure to impress.

I'd second/third the fine tooth ratchet recommendations. Matter of fact, I got some for my own dad for father's day (he's as much a hack as I am, 3-5 times as tight with a buck, and I'm sure he'll still appreciate them)

Be honest with your chrome pusher about why you want more ratcheting screwdrivers. He'll either sell them to ya or refuse. I've given a bunch of SO ratcheting screwdrivers as gifts and every recipient has been impressed.

Ratchets would be a good second pick.

I snagged a grey handled ratcheting screwdriver off the truck today for my dad. I may have to grab one next week for myself. The grey looks awesome.
