Picked these up to add to my collection. Both are single phase.Lathe is 13x60 w/ a dial readout on the carrige, faceplate, taper attachment, and center rest. Mill is digital readout, power table, and collets. I also got all the original owner/operater manuals for all of it. $2000.Now the challenge is how to get it off the trailer, since my car hoist and bridge crane is still in the ohio shop.Really didnt plan on moveing in any machinery untill they were here, but this was a "one day only" deal.

I'm ignorant to the pricing on that stuff, but jealous of the capability you now have!

For unloading, chain it to a tree and floor it. :)

Rent, borrow, steal or buy an engine hoist. I wouldn't want them going off over the edge or falling if mine.

Or have a pizza and beer party for about 8 friends!

two sheets of 3/4" plywood and several pieces of small diameter pipe or round stock and several friends to assist. Slide to rear of trailer or tilt trailer if possible, place plywood under lathe and once on concrete start placing round stock under plywood-should roll like the egyptians used to build piramids!:bounce:

the first time I moved the lathe I did it that way

the 3 jacks method is easier

Well after reading the manual,in the unpacking and setup section it shows how to sling it and secure the table for hoisting. Also says the installed wieght is 2200 lbs. I would have thought more, but anyway the loader on my tractor is good for 2000#,So I'm gonna try it. maybe lighten it up by takeing off the readout and vise and motor. The trailer is a tilt,so if the loader will hold long enough to tilt back and drive out?

I got looking at some of this, and the faceplate for the lathe is new and in the box with a cod tag for $240.

The head and top will separate with about 4 bolts IIRC. Comes apart at the top of the casting where the bare metal section is. That should take you under the lift limit of your loader. It does self align when going back together.

Just remove the tailstock, cross slide & apron from the SouthBend, that will take off a ton of weight...

Removing the apron/cross slide on a 13 is a 2 man job... just undo the screws holding leadscrew by the serial number & just crank it off the end of the lathe... it will be HEAVY!! don't drop the ******.

Those have got to be worth that just as scrap metal, never mind functioning machines...

What do these things cost when they are new??

I have the reciepts for the table power unit,it was new in 96 for $1600,the readout bill and warrenty card say $5500 in 97.After i looked at it more the sb has a not very old motor, not even any surface dirt and a 1 piece spindle belt, not spliced leather.I do need a cover for the reversing switch on the mill, lost it on the way home.

Call a local tow truck company. They'd probably charge you for the time, but I don't think it would be much.

I'd say you did very well provided they are functional.

Everything works. They were hooked up and I checked them out, unhooked them ,and the guy loaded them up.The one thing about them is that they must have been sitting a while w/o heat because there is some surface rust on parts, and when I wipe the oil or whatever they were sprayed down with ,it comes off a bit red.It would seem a good degreasing and cleaning is in order before new paint, but the "black" bare metal surfaces annoy me. The other thing is that I'm a little gun shy about solvents or derusting agents around the electronic readout sensors.Any one have any ideas about that?
