I have about 500 of these wiring diagrams printed in 1932 for vehicles from 1914 to 1931. I was going to frame and sell some of them and it occurred to me that that in the right setting they might make a really cool wall covering, if it was done really nice with maybe some type of gloss over it. I can picture it but was wondering what you guys thought...they're a little larger than a normal page, about 10x12

Perfect for etsy or kickstarter, put a few together for photos, delivery date a couple months out so you get bulk rate on frames and have time to assemble. Make sure you include site, PayPal, and shipping fees in the total.

I've used old books for covering on old organizers, lamps and even the pegboard wall above my work bench.

Good luck if you intend to frame and sell them. My advice. Don't put much money into framing them. Perhaps shrink wrap on foam board but even then I wouldn't do many.

Our family has a custom frame shop and times are tough. If we didn't own the building and equipment my brother would probably be unemployed.

You should make sure you aren't infringing on any copyrights before you try and sell any of that stuff.

doubt the copyright is even still valid at this point, but either way, selling is completely legal. just not making copies and selling is where there can be trouble...

as for wall coverings, I think it would look cool. people used to hang newspaper as wallpaper during the depression. in the 70's it was again common to do in bathrooms, and other decoupage furniture. (remember Wendy's old fashioned hamburgers dining tables?). using the wiring diagrams would be awesome for a man cave.

I've also seen some cool wall coverings made from torn magazine pages and glued/cleared. the guy I know who bought a house with that painted over it with a beige color and it ended up looking just like stucco...pretty cool effect...

Boy you're not kidding about tough times. I've been picking up old frames at thrift stores for 1-2 dollars each. There's a dollar store by me that has big frames for 2 bucks also. I'm only going to do about 10 right now to see if there's any interest

I highly doubt you would be able to sell more than a couple dozen, even if cheap. Use them for wall paper like you said. Very cool!

Exactly Jim... I doubt many people are restoring early 1900's Fisk , Durant , or REO vehicles these days. The most amazing thing I've learned from having these is how many short lived vehicle manufacturers there were back then

I move every 2.5-3 yrs. No choice.
I hope you are wearing gloves when touching those books. The oils from your finger tips is not good. If it was my book, I'll leave it as is and vacuum seal it. Pass it down to a collector later on...

You'd probably make more money selling the books intact than separating the individual pages and trying to make "art" out of them...

95 years from date of publication.

and is Fisk, Durant, and REO still in business and protecting their assets? doubtful...Durant was dissolved in 1931, REO, surprisingly, went defunct in 1975, can't even find any info on Fisk...but who knows, maybe some creditor somewhere owns the copyright and is just itching to spend big bucks to litigate over someone selling 90+ year old documents for a couple bucks:lol_hitti

1914 vehicle wiring? What did that even look like, haha

Any of the same parts that are used today?

There would be nothing to litigate, all you need to do is show infringement. It's $1500 per violation. Sell 10 copies and you have a $15,000 liability. This isn't China, our laws actually protect intellectual property.
