Well here's another take on the Montezuma box thread, a mobile one.

If you are a guy that likes to admire pretty polished tools then these pictures are going to be painful for you. I assure you they usually get the job done though :)

As for the box, this is the second one I've owned. The first was the medium sized but I outgrew it and stepped up to the larger one, had this one for several years now. I bought the first small one in the 90's and it's still around, actually preferred the two small latches that is used versus the big handle on the newer ones.

Excellent boxes and really speed things up out in the field.

Feel free to take a stab and guessing what you see in the pictures. Some should be very recognizable, some not so much, and some are Chinese.

sorry for the large file size...

I have one and love the box, was expensive, but should last forever and one day when I upgrade to a newer rollaway and top box, I could always use that in my truck or somewhere mobile if I need to. Nice box and how old is it if you don't mind me asking, I want to see what the oldest box like that is.

we had one on the farm that was 15-20 years old. Other than paint, still as good as new. If you want a box you can beat the hell out of, that would be it.

This box is about 5-6 years old. I bought my first one (smaller) of this type in the mid 1990's I believe, can't remember the exact year. Back then they had an entirely different latching system, bought it at a farm show before you could even get one on the internet.

And I agree, they are a high priced box for what they are but it's proven to be worth every penny just in the ability to quickly grab what you need and make sure it gets put back when you are done.

Oh and as for the cleanliness deal, not an issue at all. I never touch anything where it would matter. I'm not about to go tearing down an engine, this is for belts on equipment, bearings, etc. And as for the bearings, they stay VERY clean going in..the tools not so much.

That is good to know... I wish there was a way to open the lift covers and keep them open while you look for things in the carptments, but oh well. My box is only a year of so old, and always been in the garage. I think it is the same as yours the la-400. The two empty ratchet slots are for the two dual 80's I had a friend order for me, but if I don't get the next week, I will just pay cash off the truck for them.

sure looks like the same box

I know the older ones had a peg that would hold the bottom compartment open but for some reason this model does not.

Your box is a few years newer than mine, they went from a rounded type handle to the box shaped like you have. Yours also has the gas strut that supports the lid, mine was the older lift and slide to the left to lock style which is alright but when a gust of wind hits the lid it goes over backwards and you have to pull it back to where it sits normally after you have slid it to the left.

They've certainly made some improvements over the years.

It is called putting a snap on logo on a monteuzuma box. But I will say the monteumza box is at least made in the USA, my KRA is canadian.

That montezuma that has the snapon logo, has it been repainted? There is a lot of orange peel in the paint.

I like that portable box would fit nicely on my roller and I need some more room. I looked at their site and found this for a only a 150 more

http://www.strictlytoolboxes.com/co...uma-tool-boxes-36-professional-combo-set.html

So do I spend less and get what I think looks like a good setup, easy inventory and easy to get to tools or do I go for a complete box with more room. Tough decision and has to made so Santa brings me a new toy:thumbup:

I liked the box you showed in the link, but I also like the layout of the portable box. If it was me, I would go with the portable until you run out of room and then get a new setup and use the portable for something else... Also less moving parts to ever break on the portable. But if you go with the other one, it does like nice and has lots of room.

Also as I do need more room, I am thinking a good intermediate box would help out and I can keep my current setup as well.

Canadian Tire carries re-badged Montezuma boxes in their Mastercraft Maximum line.
The Crossover top chest is on sale this week at $320 Canadian, while the matching roll cabinet is $380. There's slight differences from the Monezuma offerings I've seen on the internet, like different handle mounting (CT's are recessed into the box, Montezuma's mounted proud on flat sides & the rolling cabinet has plainer casters on the CT model with only one grab handle) I'm not sure if it's due to Canadian Tire specing different parts, or changes in Montezuma's production.

From what I remember it is a baked on paint, causing it to look that way. I know nothing about paint though.
