and was actually shocked to find out most of them are still made in the USA!

I thought Apex had moved manufacturing to China. All but the stupid ratcheting adjustable wrenches were marked made in USA. Good thing I have no money, for as much as I dislike using adjustable wrenches, I do like supporting American manufacturing.

I might have to make an official 'Home Depot made in USA product list' someday.

That is all. Carry on.

All of the crescent adjustables at my home depots are all china. Perhaps you received old stock?

As wierd as it may seem there are two "cresents". Apex owns one, which is mostly USA manufactured. Cooper owns the other, and is PRC made. The cooper packaging uses square block letters. Apex spells cresent in more artistic looking letters. Both packages are the same color though.

I noticed that recently at an Ace Hardware near me, they had import Crescent wrenches at the beginning of the summer and a few weeks ago they has all USA made ones including a 4" one in a blister pack, good to see.

I've never seen a China made Crescent other than the oddballs/"new" versions, and I buy them pretty often (I lose them regularly).

I've been told that at one point there was a "homeowner" model that was China sourced, and the heavier duty "pro" models that were US sourced.

crescent still makes the industrial black oxide adjustables in the US.

I have several at work, I gave the made in China blue point adjustables to a new guy.

There is actually one Crescent, I believe. It is part of Apex Tool Group. Apex was formed when Cooper and Danaher merged their tool divisions to form Apex.

Jori, at Harry Epstein, said Crescent would continue making some adjustable wrenches in the US. He said they would mostly be aimed at industrial customers and others who want USA made wrenches, if memory serves.

I've seen tons of Chinese Crescent wrenches at retailers. The packaging is slightly different than the US versions. I would be very surprised if they reversed the decision and brought all production back to the US, but it could have happened. I think it's more likely the wrenches posted by the OP are old stock or for some reason Crescent temporarily substituted USA wrenches.

I haven't been impressed with US or Chinese Crescent adjustables. I found the Sears ones made by Western Forge to be pretty good quality though, so I own those.

I agree. There are better options than Crescent. All the ones I've handled recently had floppy lower jaws.

The Western Forge and Spanish Irega wrenches (branded Channellock and others) are much better.

Agreed. The only good thing about Crescent adjustables are the price. Supposedly the Chinese-made ones are slightly improved, but I haven't noticed any significant differences.

I encountered my first Chino model at Wal-Mart about a month back. It was stamped with block style letters and the inset of the handle was noticeably shinier than the traditional models.

Craftsman/WF adjustable wrenches are nice but the Klein USA adjustable wrenches (the Japan ones aren't bad) are some of the best out there. Not sure if they make their own or have someone else make them but they are excellent.

If I were going to buy any adjustable wrench, it would be the Knipex Pliers Wrench.

Klein makes them, or at least some of them. There's a video on youtue of a Klein factory and you can see them making adjustable wrenches. I'd post a link, but I'm using my phone now.

I don't know if they have Japanese wrenches anymore. The ones I've seen that were Japanese were old stock.

I recently purchased a 6 inch USA made Crescent. The lower jaw was damaged trying to remove a stiff 1/4-20 bolt the first time I used it. My 6 inch Craftsman loosened it without any issues. Last new Crescent for me regardless of COO.

I'm not saying this is not true but this is exactly what you tell the guys in your factory so that they will help train the guys in China. Once the guys in China get good, you don't need the USA labor anymore.
