So it begins...my Craftsman Tools

Well decided to clean out my spare tool bag that usually lives in the trunk of my 67 Mustang. It’s prevented a tow more than once.

Turns out almost all of my Craftsman is USA made which was nice to confirm.

I am missing a 9/16” 6 pt 3/8 socket. I spent an hour looking for it but with a recent move it’s likely gone forever. I’m actually going to buy a replacement on eBay. Wish me luck I feel lost without it.



I then checked COO on every Craftsman tool I have and I have a lot. If they didn’t say USA I assume 100% not USA made is that correct?

The only non-USA I have are these ratcheting open ends and some ratcheting box ends.

I absolutely hate these ratcheting wrenches the selector switch scratches everything.

I’ll stop here for now. I have so many Craftsman tools and mostly 6 point sets I won’t bore this group with too many pictures.

Those ratcheting open ends are really nice for hydraulic work..i have the same set.

You are 100% correct if it does not say USA it will be coming from China.

As far as replacement just do the E-bay or ask other GJ members on the looking for section and someone will help you out for a very low price.

Plus...it will take a boat load of years for all the old stock to fade away, so every time (providing you have the time) start going to garage sales and most times you will still be able to pick up items that are old stock.

Post the series number of the remaining sockets to get the correct match for the missing 9/16". There are plenty of members who will likely have what You are missing.

i have so many 9/16, unfortunately i'm not back from Afghanistan yet. i second the pawnshop idea, i clean out my local pawn shops of a lot US made sockets a few months ago.

Thanks guys I ordered a replacement from eBay it’s a 6pt USA made non laser etched. Should be close enough.

These are the tools in my bag.

The biggest waste of money in wrenches was the s and c shaped gear wrench ratchets. They did look awesome when I used to have everything on peg board.

Those ratcheting open ends are purely China. I have never seen those made in the USA.
I remember when the manufacturer (from China) was at SEMA marketing for companies that they would private label them for

Found out I had some Chinkanese ones. One day I’ll find the replacements either online or pawn shop.

I agree, I have a 1/2 & 3/8 sliding t breaker that don't say made in the usa, but we're made by Plomb in the 1940's. They have the U-circle mark on them. Seem to remember some sockets of mine don't have made in the USA either, but the series -V- or =V= or something like that, is known to be U.S. Made

Ok I concede yes older craftsman will have other marks. but I am not so sure about the modern era with a box that was made in the usa and not on the tool.

For the most part they were stamped somewhere on the tool, any pictures of tools that were made in the usa coming from these boxes that I could look at ?

The double open ended quick wrenches are Chinese. The combination quick wrenches were made in U.S.A. such as 942356.

These would be the only things I can think of. The U.S. Made ones are still available at my local Sears Hometown and Ace store. The package has Made in USA on them, but the tools do not

I have one of those 300 some odd piece kits of RP US made from a long time ago. I still use a few of them but most have been swapped out for snap on. I'm pretty sure I have the socket you are looking for OP and the 3/8 6pts were one of the sets I bought in snap on.

I can get some pictures later, but a few that I have are dead blow mallets made by Nupla, made in USA on the tag not anywhere on the mallet. I bought several of them last year and they are all like that.

Magnetic pick up tools with or without the light. I believe these were made by WF. I have bought several over the last couple of years. Made in USA on the package not on the tool.

Dogbone wrenches not marked made in USA on the tool but were on the package. The manufacture code shows they were made by SK.

Ha ha there could definitely be some truth to that. The Bag is very heavy and keeps the rear planted
