Spent the past couple years lurking here and trying to do my due diligence. Finally settled on a pole barn. Decided on 30 X 48. I am on 5 acres but it has a creek running through part of tje lot and an environmental buffer. So 30 X 48 was what fit.

First came the dirt work. The back left section has about 3 1/2 foot of fill.

Next came the holes. These are bored through the fill and 3 1/2 feet into virgin soil. I am 25 miles from the crater on Mount St Helen. The soil is a little rocky. 6" of concrete poured in the bottom of the holes.

Once the concrete at the bottom was cured, the poles were set. Now we wait for an inspection.

Here is an odd detail. These are 20p galvanized nails driven into the post. I guess they are to provide some grip for the concrete. The engineering details show them.

I will update as more progress is made. Brad

IH: been way too long since you updated your thread. how do you like the plywood walls you put up or was that OSB cause i can't recall exactly?

also you've been acquiring some great tools so would love to see a few pictures of them in your new garage/shop. have you found a use for that big anvil yet or does it just look cool for the time being?

cheers
