SO KRL Caster Preference

Old vs new. The old has that spring that I always thought provided some self-leveling. The new ones seem to be fixed vertically but prettier. The new ones also move sideways on their axle while the old ones have little to no such play.

My issue is that the rubber has worn off the pivoting casters and the new pivoting casters are a bit taller than the old ones and so I was replacing all four. Not sure that I have any good alternative but wanted to ask how folks like the newer casters.

I have the older ones and I believe that Snap-on has wheels for them. My wheels originally had rubber tires like yours, but they were too soft and hard to push around. I replaced them with wheels that had harder plastic tires.

Thanks, that would have been the best thing, just add phenolic covered wheels to the existing casters, but snapon said they had no such thing available. Probably should just pull one and measure it, someone makes a wheel I'm sure.

If anyone sees the wheels on the SO site I'd sure appreciate a part number!

BTW, the side-to-side play in the new casters is because they use the same wheel frame for casters with and without a brake, the movement is from taking out the brake. I'll probably add a washer if I use them at all.

Found these, looks like a $50 solution vs $1,000 solution, and I can get them in red or green!

When I had my KRL it had the old wheels like yours. My dealer warranteed them for the new ones in your pic. No charge.

I liked them. Then traded up to an Epiq that has similar wheels.

I have the older ones as well.I keep them cleaned and oiled regularly.They are very expensive to replace..

Thanks guys, I'm gonna install the new ones as soon as I get the fourth. Also ordering new wheels for the old caster just because I want to see how the wheel replacement works out. I can always use them on a work table.
