So loud!!

I seen questions about loud metal roofs but I haven’t seen one the addresses my situation. My house has a metal roof with open cell spray foam insulation ( that’s what the installer suggested and we didn’t know any better). My ceiling inside is also metal roofing.
My living room is open all the way up to the roof. When it rains it is almost deafening. What is the best way to quiet it down some? Please help

We also had a metal roof on our house but have no issues with noise. When I’m in a shed with a metal roof and it’s raining I don’t think it’s too bad honestly. “Deafening” is subjective of course so your version of loud may not match mine.

Metal ceilings in your house? That's a new one for me. Maybe you could remove the panels, add some sound deadening (mass-based, like dynamat).

Other than that, remove the metal and go back with drywall?

We live in a pole barn house except we only have 9 foot ceilings. We hear the rain if it rains very hard in the house, so I think you’re going to have trouble not hearing the rain.

Our garage has 12 foot ceilings and you hear the rain even more in the garage, obviously living in Minnesota. Everything is very well insulated.

Gotcha. I was going to say that I was surprised that you're getting that much noise transfer, but looking up the NRC for open cell spray foam, it looks like it's 0.70-0.75 per inch. I have no complaints with rain noise in my building, but that's with 16" of blown fiberglass in the attic at 0.90-0.95 per inch (over 3-1/2 times as much noise reduction).

We have one also, ours is not big at all.

We built to retire in and we wanted a big garage.

that blown fiberglass is doing most of the work (noise reduction)

Lower the ceiling and sheet rock and avoid connections to the existing roof structure, or at least minimalism them. Seriously, nothing easy.

Suspended ceiling grid would help, but I doubt it would lower the sound to a satisfactory level.
