Had mine rebuilt today. Matco man had the kit for mine but mentioned apex hasn't sent any in a while. I had no idea about any of this until today. Glad I didn't have him order me the one I liked in the flyer

It seems like a lot of the US made Matco tools have stocking/supply chain issues.

We keep telling brands like Matco to carry more US made, but these manufacturers aren't doing us any favors pushing the idea.

Wow, another six week delay. They've had my Armstrong 22-906 since Sept 15, I guess I shouldn't expect to see that any time soon either. Weird thing is they're supposed to just ship me a new one but getting information has been like pulling teeth.

Funny to see this thread active, I just received a call this morning from my local Fastenal that my 1" Armstrong ratchet is in for pickup. So things are moving. I'm surprised that they didn't get to the more common sizes first. Then again probably a lot more 3/8 to warranty out.

Well that kills my desire to buy some Matco ratchets....looks like Snap On is getting all of my business for the locking flex heads.
If you want long-locking flex ratchets go grab a set of E-Z Red and be done with it. Smooth, strong, long, tight.Metal or comfort.
God Bless Taiwan

I posted a thread about an Armstrong warranty experience and these issues are exactly why I don't want to send my ratchet in for repair. I'd rather just buy the kit myself since armstrong won't send kits out. No way am I waiting 6-7 months for a repair! It's really got me considering other ratchets as some have mentioned above

Guess I just got lucky, few months ago I had a Matco ratchet that needed a rebuild, stopped at a friends body shop that has Matco stopping there. Walked on the truck and handed him my ratchet, man didn't know me from Adam. Didn't have a kit but reached up to the roof rack, pulled the guts out of a brand new ratchet and put them in mine. No fuss no nonsense. Few weeks later I brought in a Witte made Matco screwdriver with a broken tip, same thing didn't have exact screwdriver on board but reached up and gave me a longer one. Not a fan of Matco tools at all, but have no complaints with the way I was treated

I called last week to inquire (again) about the ratchet I returned about Sept 1. The rep told me the container is scheduled for February 29 and would be shipped a couple of days after that.

The C.S. rep seemed grateful and surprised that I wasn't yelling at him, and reiterated the story about closing the two smaller facilities and consolidating operations in SC. He also claimed that the equipment they moved from Texas was junk, and had to be completely rebuilt or replaced.

Didn't ask him that, since my ratchet is to arrive in a container, presumably from Asia, what does a plant consolidation have to do with the delay?

Why would your ratchet be comming in a container? Armstrong and matco are USA other than silver eagle?

If it has the comfort grip handle, the handle is imported. Don't know the logistics of shipping a USA made ratchet to Asia to have the handle installed and shipping the final product back. The COO waters with Matco are incredibly muddy. There is a lot of import Matco, one reason I stopped buying anything from them.

I had noticed a lot of the current Matco offerings are import as well, mostly Astro penumatic at about double the price. A lot of Lisle as well. You just have to be an informed buyer I guess.

I'm waiting on a 1/2 locking flex Armstrong ratchet from late august/early september to get back to me from Napa. Had to warranty it as the locking teeth would not lock after a couple months.

I'll bump this old thread:

Well, they're still working on it.

My 3/8" ratchet that was returned for warranty on Sept 1 still isn't shipped.

2 weeks ago they confirmed a Feb 29 stock date.

I inquired re. status yesterday and they are now claiming April 29 stock date.

That'll make an 8 month turn around for a warranty claim, if they hit the newest projected date.

Lucky I don't make a living from that ratchet wrench.

So much for "truck brand" premium service.

I ordered an Armstrong ratchet for a customer in November, they were delivered to my office yesterday, guess warranty claims are lower on the list.

I had the same problems with Armstrong last year. I had ordered a ratchet from my local Napa in about June. It didn't show up until about November.

uncalled for. i dont care what kind of problems a company has went through, they should be back on production or at least outsource machining or tooling or something to get the parts and pieces made and the orders filled.....

I e-mailed Matco customer service in January and they said it should be about a 5 day turn around for my replacement ratchet. I sent it in on 1/18/2016 and after about 2 weeks I e-mailed them again and they said they were on backorder and would ship 2/29/2016. So I waited until after March 5th to e-mail again. Last update I received is that it should ship 4/29/2016. I won't be holding my breath.

Just spoke to customer service, I have a ratchet there for warranty, The got it Aug 18th, I was told it would ship Oct 12th due to backorder, Now that date is moved to Dec 14th. :eyecrazy: so 16 week backorder for a simple 3/8 ratchet, Im sure the "distributors" are loving this

Maybe they wanted to customers to buy cheap ratchets from Harbor Freight so they could compare them.

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
I spoke to my Matco dealer about this and he hinted that Matco might be looking at having another company outside of the Apex group to make them. Don't know if he has the straight 411 but he knows its having a big negative impact that will be a long term problem for them since some techs are stepping onto Snap On trucks because of this.

We don't have Matco dealers down here. But after seeing what some of you write about warranty times, i dont think i would ever buy an item from them. Don't get me wrong, from what i hear they are top shelf tools, but for me warranty and customer service including wait times goes hand in hand with the over all product.

The 4/29 date is what they told me, too.

Let's hope they meet their commitment this time.
