SO MG725 first impression

It's really annoying but my dealer can't order the MG725 yet. Apparently they keep kicking back his order because they're releasing it incrementally to selected regions of the country. I suppose this makes sense in that if everyone wanted one, there would be no ones available for warranty replacement if needed. This happened for a few weeks with those striking prybars, too.

Possibly, but there were full page ads in trade magazines over a month ago, and the guns have been showing up on Ebay for at least a month too. You would think they would make enough of them so that if people wanted to plop down $300 or so for a new impact, they could. This trickle down supply isn't the way to have their new impact "be at the top of the food chain".

Unless they are tryingt o use "exclusivity" as a marketing strategy. But that usually works only for Ferrari, Aston Martin, RR, rolex, etc...

This is a damn impact wrench, not a watch!

its the nicest impact that i have ever used. Its not heavy at all, not heavy in the front.
very quiet also, the gun comes with some foam that you can put in the exhaust and then install a plate over that. i have not had any problem taking stubburn lugs and bolts off.
everyone in the shop wants to try it. and several guys are planning to buy it.

Most people use a $1 bill for size reference. Of course, with Snap-on, you have to use a $10.

After talking to my Snap on dealer yesterday, I think I might pull the trigger on this gun. The 725 is only slightly more expensive than an IR 2135, is still made in USA, but comes with a 2 year warranty and I can get service less than a mile from my house (whereas I would have to find and then deal with an IR service center).

Here's the kicker: i am not even a tech. I have made numerous purchases from this Snap On dealer in the past, but nothing huge. He offered to let me try the gun for two weeks before I would have to commit to buying it! That kind of service is worth something to me...

I was using an old Mac gun. i dont even know the model number.

No need to support your Union brothers now! Snap-on is closing the Natick Plant March 13. I know because I work there. Well at least till the closing so I can get my severance. Same mechanical issues as the XT7100. Problems with the motor stalling during the assembly process.

The MG725 will most likely now be made in Murphy N.C. They make the MG31 which is being fazed out and replaced by the MG325(admittedly a great gun if the Murphy plant can do it right).Any how I am upset with the closing of the Natick plant. I just wanted to get out this info so that anyone purchasing this gun will know the cost. The Murphy plant will be paying their employees $10.00 less per hour with far less benefits than my Union brothers. You should ask for a cheaper price for your MG725 impact.

It's a great gun. I would buy another.

As for losing a union job, the writing has been on the wall for years. My personal opinion is that people are lucky to have had those jobs for this long. I live in Michigan, I am somewhat familiar with union jobs (ALL of my relatives worked in the auto industry at one time or another). They are disappearing... you can kick, scream, piss and moan, but the simple fact is that the unions are a dying breed. Too many agendas, too much politics, and all too often, the little guy on the bottom of the totem pole - you know, the one who works his *** off but doesn't have that "magical" seniority - gets royally screwed.

This is all coming from someone who belongs to a union... and who does not feel that he has been very well supported by it. But that's a whole other thread.

Wasn't that the premise of the GM bail out bill that was not accepted by the employees? The bail out bill asked that the employees wages be reduced to that of other, non union manufacturers and they all said "NO".

If you want to pay top money for the gun go ahead. Fact is the gun will cost Corporate less to make. Rob Hartman (Plant Manager of the Murphy N.C. PLANT) is pleased. I'm sure. Esconido CA is also closing their plant with 80 employs and moving to City of Industry.

True the writing was on the wall. With my Union protecting the lazy workers and the Management at the Natick, Ma plant protecting their friends. The have been ****** Snap-On for years. The one getting the short end of the stick was all of the truly hard working employs that felt an obligation to do good work.

100 % made in USA is true. All components on the production line are made in America.
