SO Ratchet Questions

Hey guys kinda new on here don't post a lot but do a good bit of reading,I am slowly changing to SO tools.

Any way
I bought a F80 3/8 drive ratchet a while back and I wanted to put one of the green and black handles on it,so I bought two grips off of ebay.I had to beat the heck out em to get them on,well after I finally got it slipped over the green cover just split right and broke.I tried this two times and they both broke like what the heck.So while I was doing some reading on here about how to put the handles on I ran across a post that said if it was a ratchet that did not come from SO with a cover the you could not put a cover on.So is this true ?? If that is the case then I should of bought the FH80 and pulled the red handle off and put my green one on...Again is this true ? If it is anyone want to buy this F80 ?? Or trade for a green handle ratchet ?

Next is there any SO dealers on here that want to sell some stuff ?? I would much rather help someone out then deal direct with SO.I do not work at a shop but work on trucks on the side and have sent numerous emails trying to get in contact with the guy in my area and I am not chasing someone to spend money,when I can do it from my computer.

If you have the standard, metal handle ratchet from SO then you won't be able to install any of the grips on it. The gripped ratchets have a handle milled to accept the handles, it's a perfect cylinder in shape and allows them to slide on. I suppose you could spin your ratchet on a lathe and mill it down to accept a handle but that's an awfully big effort. Your best bet would be to return/sell/exchange/trade the ratchet you have for one with a handle already installed and then swap it out if you want a different color/style.

Thanks that is what I was looking for,On the second handle I tried to put on I even took a drill bit and tried to make a bigger hole.Dumb I know but I had to try something.Plus just looking at the ratchet and the handle I kept saying that is going to be a super tight fit.But now I know!!

Snap-On drivers (aka franchisees) are not allowed to sell outside of their assigned regions nor via ebay, craigslist nor the internet.

It's part of their legally binding contract.

We have Chadster and MrShaun here on GJ that are both drivers adn happy to answer your questions but cannot sell to you.

If you cannot find a local driver, then I suggest you buy here in the GJ classified or even easier, buy directly from the Snap-On website like most folks do. it's simple, easy and get's you almost all of the same perks (except teh monthly Hot Deals flyer deals) that the rest of teh country sees.

And as everyone mentioned above, the std. metal F80 handle will not except a soft-grip without machining of teh handle. The soft grip ratchets are dedicated to having plastic handle attached by design.

The grips can be bought new on the website for less than ebay very likely.
FH936-12G is the part number for the green 3/8" ratchet soft grip.
I put green handles on my breaker bars to quickly differentiate them from ratchets.

Do you have the numbers for the 1/4 and 1/2 as well ?

I started the process of grinding down my matco ratchet to accept a so hard handle. Mind you I got the matco ratchet for cheap and dont mind "wrecking" it. originally came with a hard handle, didnt like it so I removed it, now adding a so hard handle. It it works out I will do a second matco ratchet.

I am sure the ratchets are the same so no drilling is recommended.
