I have a couple of Snap-On Ratchets that are rather crunchy in operation, and I’d like to get back working smoothly again.

I don’t really have a friendly local SO rep, so looking for some help identifying the right repair kits…

TM75 1/4” drive

is there a kit to repair this? The (U.K.) on line shop lists the ratchet and the pawl separately (TM75-4B and TM75-3A) but no kit. Both are back ordered, so no guarantee they are actually still available.

There is a Quick release kit available (RKRTR72A) but does not list compatibility - sadly it’s also back ordered…

F723 3/8” drive quick release

searches on this site have suggested there is a kit for this ratchet (RKRAF723), but again I can’t see that available. There is a 3/8” repair kit (RKRFR80) but again no compatibility list. Anyone had any recent experience or can point me in the right direction?

anyone here a U.K. SO rep (or a US one willing to ship?)

thanks
mark

Have you called their warranty line? I would assume the UK is similar to the USA one. I have never had them make me show proof of purchase, and who has it after 20 some years. Act like your a mech and you have some old trusties that need repair kits, they have always sent them right out.

Living in the UK, in my experience there is no such thing as a friendly UK Snap On Franchisee.
I tried to get my nearest (but not local) franchisee to replace a breaker bar which was purchased from his predecessor with a visible crack in the head but he refused. I have tried to get another near(ish) franchisee to either sell me or order me various replacement softgrip handles and he refused as I don’t have an account with him. What the pair of them don’t realise is that although I am not a full time technician, I spend between £500 - £1000 on Snap On tools per month online, while they can carry on visiting back street garages selling screwdriver sets on £10 per week credit.

Back to the ratchets, I still have my original F723 which has had a couple of rebuild kits over the years, the rebuild kit will upgrade it from a 20 tooth to 30 tooth, which is still a long way from a F80 however I do still use mine occasionally, it is still usable and it just feels “right” in my hand.

The old 1/4” ratchets in my experience are not worth bothering with, the 1/4”dual 80’s (actually dual 72’s) were such an upgrade over the old 1/4” ones that if you are going to have to pay UK retail for a repair kit I would just pick up a second hand TL72 instead (the THL72 softgrip is my favourite)

As a non-commercial user, most of the tool trucks are not interested in dealing with me. I do have a tame Mac guy who’s helpful and essentially happy to take money off anyone. I’m nowhere near his patch tho, so only useful if I want something specific, or when he gets SO stuff as trade ins.

have had mixed luck with Kettering in the past - today was a good day tho. They answered the phone on the second ring, had the right rebuild kits in stock and I should have them tomorrow as warranty items.

these are the only Snappy ratchets I have, so will be nice to have them working again despite having other finer tooth ones available to me.

Agree with above: take apart, clean and then use Superlube!

i’ll have to Google that… I had soaked them in WD40 for some time, which got them moving again. The are definitely missing some teeth on the ratchet tho, so rebuild is the way to go. Edit to say I did google it, and see there is oil and grease available - presumably this is a grease job?

I’ll post up the kit numbers when they arrive.

Yes, used the U.K. warranty phone line. On this occasion, there was no issue and they were very helpful, the kits were in stock, and arrived next day.

on previous occasions, they have insisted I contact my local franchisee or refused to replace things on warranty - mostly drawer slides…
