My solus ultra is behind on updates at 14.4 and considering updating next week. Anyone on here current with the 16.6? I think is where they're at now. Just don't want to spend the money and be dissapointed is all. I know they updated a lot of things and supposedly expanded their diesel and euro coverage.

Input from y'all is appreciated.

Buy an Autel Maysis Pro with the J-box and you'll never pick up the Solus again.

I assume you are in the USA. If so, be sure to buy from a reputable dealer so you make sure to get a real one that can be registered and not a knock off.

16.2 is where they are at now. 16 is for the year, and the .2 is for 2nd quarter of the year.

Go here to see what is in the new software.

I went from 14.4 to 15.4 now on to 16.2

Im in Europe so can't speak for any of the US stuff but for the euro coverage it's added extra cars and makes which is very good.

The main update though is accessing more in depth items and doing tests etc. I had an issue a while back on a Mercedes A class with electronic handbrake and we couldn't get anything to reset the pistons. 16.2 now has a option for reset them.

Rosso, I work at a gm dealership but we have oddballs and our service writers do not turn anything away. I had to do some diag on a vw a while back and was not happy at all with the minimal coverage. Which is why I was hoping updating would clear some of those issues up and allow more indepth access.

Chadster1 thank you for clarifying that. I was in talks with my rep about a subscription that they can do. It's going to cost me 200$ to become current to 16.2 then I'm locked into 60$ a month for the year and continue on with updates as they come out. Which I believe after talking with him is the route I'm going to take.

I believe matco rebrands the Autel with their stuff. I demoed the matco tablet a few months ago. The wireless feature is cool but I'm buying an extension cable for my solus which will take care of my issue. The interface to me sucked to navigate and I know my way around computers pretty well. You cannot get to anything fast IMO. I opted to keep my solus over converting to the tablet.

I think before I bought the Autel or matco tablets I would buy the auto enginuity bundle with the j-box and still come out cheaper.

Thanks for the input guys. Keep em coming

This. Or an Elite with the jbox. You get 2 years of updates and 2 years of warranty.

I'm a distributor for autel.

We have an autel. It works on every vehicle I've tried from pre production prototypes to JDM... ive never understood why some people cant get on with them.. SD cards for updates too! Last time i used a snap on tool they were still using key card tech from the 90's!!

I keep looking harder and harder at autel. Now if it was possible to get the mini, wireless connector ob2 only, and scope options and cables for USA, asian, and euro then I'd be all about it. I have an mt2500 & mtg2500 for obd1 stuff and don't need it for a NEW scanner.

Why do you say that? A friend of mine is set on getting Auto Enginuity at work as they're looking to replace their Bosch machine.

It's terrible in a professional setting. The graphing is horrible limited function and pid. The biggest issue to me was lousy graphing

Bosch is lousy as well we actually had an OTC scanner that I brought auto enguinity because of. Didn't help much

I'd pony up the money and get a snapon. The modis can be had for less than 5 grand with euro. I've heard of specials on the verus even cheaper than that

We had a maxidas. It literally set in the bottum drawer of the snapon cart. It was terrible to use. Took forever to do a code scan on a car. Stupid names for functions if you could even find what you were looking for. They haven't used keys in a while. Everything is keyless. 2 are wireless

I'm not a fan of autel as a company either. Unethical in my opinion ripping people off

The new autels are over 10x faster than the original maxidas. I used to sell snap on scanners, and now I sell autels. They have both come a long way in recent years, but currently the autels capabilities blow snap-on out of the water. This is coming from a die hard snap-on guy.

Which one?

Maxidas was brand new and fully updated

I don't have much good to say about AE (hit/miss compatibility, slow to load up, but primarily the UI has a very steep learning curve) but the graphing quality is way better than any scan tool. No scan tool can compete with a nice 17" laptop. If its the frequency of updating then your complaint is really with the given vehicles communication speed.

That evidently seems to be so with the Ford case against them, but not GM case...I did some checking myself to satisfy my curiosity and it seems the GM case is still continuing on merits that go far beyond illegal use of their logo. http://www.thompsoncoburn.com/news-...opyright-claims-against-autel-and-its-vp.aspx

Hmm, that seems to be a recent article. I spoke with Gary last week and there was no mention of anything ongoing. It'll be interesting to see where and how far they take this. Until then....:3gears:

Guy's have been loving the capabilities of their Autels, I have had virtually no complaints. I sold 5 of them last week.

The actual graphing *****. You can't change the resolution of the graph. Recently I was trying to watch a throttle body and I couldn't even zoom into to see anything but a straight line

I think alot of people that put down snapon scanners are the same people that say their hand tools are ridiculous and refuse to buy them. Omg the website says it's a 10k scanner. The website said my tool box was 12.5k too. But I have a receipt that says different

I haven't got the alert on my scanner that 16.2 is ready for download, but I was told it should be any week now. I may manually check tomorrow, but usually an icon pops up telling me an update is available when I turn it on in the morning.

As for the autel, my shop has a 908, I have a snap on verdict. They compliment each other well, each has coverage or items/data that the other is missing. Graphing on the 908 is absolutely horrendous, it is definitely not my go to. Snap on has really stepped up their coverage and increased their speed with the last few updates, you probably won't be disappointed.

You talked about having issues with a vw. Snap on scanner is identical to the vag-com if you put it in expert mode.

I'll be monitoring the outcome myself. I purchased an Autel MaxiDiag Elite last year to supplement other scan tools I have and I hope their higher end stuff has a higher quality feel to it and is faster than this lower end unit I recieved.

If you guys are having issues with vw I highly recommend the tool from Ross tech. Google them. It's cheap, all things considered.

If you are local I'd gladly give you one to play around with for a few days.

I'm not having an issue, the OP was. I have the ross tech tool. The snap on scanner is identical when in expert mode under vw, all measuring blocks and coding are there. I've only used it once in the last 2 or 3 years to code an instrument cluster from auto to manual since being on a laptop made it slightly more streamlined to use, but I've also done a lot of coding with the snap on.

That's good to hear. Do you happen to remember how long or in which update Snap-on gave access to VW in expert mode? I don't recall that from when I used to be a dealer.

Since before 2010 at least. They even sent me to a class explaining how to use it, got a big fancy booklet to refer to as well.
