I was wondering what is the best way to remove the soft grip on Snap-On FHX80. Its has a red one on it and I want to put a green one on to match my other ratchet.Any tips would be great.
Soak the handles in boiling water. It will soften it up enough to where you can remove and reinstall easier. Also, when I did mine I used a big washer with a cut on one side so that I could slide it onto the shank, and then a wrench butted up to it and a dead blow hammer. It's a pretty easy job
Easiest way for me is stick them in a vice, use a knockoff brand panel popper that fits over the shaft just above the grip, and knock it down with a deadblow or heavier. The new ones are significantly harder to get off than the old soft handles. I've never damaged a ratchet or screwdriver yet using this method. If you think you might, wrap a towel or washcloth around the areas you're worried about.
I used the boiling water method to swap mine. I got the water up to a rolling boil and let the handle soak in there for three minutes. Then I took two hand towels and just pulled the handle off, and while still warm I pushed the new one on. Finished with a dead blow hammer and was ready to go back to work.
