Today was an interesting day.

Been at the garage insulating it with reflective bubble wrap basically had it nice and warm today and got about 67% of it done. It's awesome too because I've been moving some lights around and have 12 ceiling boxes with bases and 100 watt equivalent CFLs in them. What's really awesome is the insulation acts like a giant reflector now and it's so bright with just the CFLs.

Now a little back story, I moved the lights down from my collar ties to my rafter ties - which are lower headroom - but I still have about 8' - nice. Here comes the awesome part. I go get the woman and have her admire my work and she's pretty impressed even though it's a flippin' mess in there! I go to open one of the garage doors... yea... remember that part about the rafters being lower now..? Well guess what. All 6 of those fancy new CFLs are directly in the way of the garage doors opening!!!!!!!! Such a ****** feeling!!! Oh well, I'll be installing my 2 bulb T8 fixtures sooner than I thought I would.

Bah humbug.

I'm sorry, but that's HILARIOUS!! HaHaHa!

If you could have seen me doing the dance around **** juggling tools in my hands and falling, tripping, swearing, sweating, since there is stuff everywhere you would have laughed.

I'm glad I didn't just push the opener button and watch two of the bulbs break off like twigs.

Woman says: "babe... you usually think these things through" then she starts giggling!!!

This summer i did all the doors for a Hyundai dealership. I installed the doors and left. The plumbers came in and installed all their sprinklers. They didn't notice the door would hit the sprinkler head until they opened the first day. They had to pull it down and re-do it all shutting down the new car delivery bay for 2 days.

This should be thread of its own.

Replacing a commode supply valve on a remodel one day. The main in the house wouldnt shut off all the way and I had a drip at the pipe. I stuffed a piece of bread in the hole and sweated the fitting on. Helper turneed on main after a break and came upstairs to the bathroom. I cracked valve slowly to bleed air out and just see some water....little test.

Well I slowly cracked it open...nothing...a little more...nothing. Closed it....cracked it open. Im like....you turn on water? He was yes. I tried sink.
It worked. I peeked down into valve....pow!! wad of bread shot out...hit me right in the eye. Im stunned. Cant see. Helper dived for the valve and shut it off. Bread and water were everywhere. stuck to ceiling. All over my face. I was soaked.

Ill never do that again.

I didn't do this, I swear, but I was painting a new home and when I got the the closet pocket doors they didn't want to move. The carpenter ahead of me installing shelving nailed the cleats off with long enough nails to hit the door in the open position (of course or he'd be in there still).

I guess that's not electrical, but I have done my own share of bonehead moves.

Do you think it is warmer in there with that insulation? Where did you get it because I'm thinking about using that stuff in my garage.

It definitely is. Keep in mind it's only a "radiant barrier" if you don't use a different actual insulation such as fiberglass behind it. It's pretty easy to go up and reflects heat and light.

I didn't measure anything, but I can just tell you that it's already working with it not fully completed. For an occasional heat up, it's great. If you wanted to keep it heated all the time, I'd definitely look at fiberglass/spray or another higher R-Value.

It's called Reflectix and you can get it at a lot of places in varying widths: Such as 48" at HD

You might be able to source it locally elsewhere under a different name. There's a place here in Fenton, MI that does Foam Insulation and they apparently will sell 300' rolls that are seconds for like $50 apparently.

I'm trying to find a good chart of the R-Values and installations, but here's this for now From the Reflectix Site
