I have never turned anything that big but I have had a few chunks come flying past me that took my breath away...

Watching the original video while it looks crazy. If he had a bit more secure drive and steady setup and a mounted tool post rather then hand held, also maybe bolt the lathe to the floor.

I can see that being made safe. Got to turn big stuff somehow.
