I dont know about you guys but it seems Im breaking more Snap On stuff latley, is there quality that which it used to be, or is it just me? I busted a philips screwdriver, tip just sheared off, not that much torque applied (instict soft). 18in striking prybar, (handle shattered, it was -20 outside). Dead blow (organge), also shatteed the same day as the prybar, heard they fixed this with the newer red compoud? And just the other day I sheard the head off a 1/2 drive 3inch impact extestion with a $11 canadian tire breaker bar? Go figure. Im not complaing, but curious what others have found and are experiencing.

ive been having problems with the 3/8ths long flexible head ratchets.. ive had about 4 in the last year and the rubber handle will come off ill get another then in a few months the same. i cut my hand doing something at work pretty bad and told the snap on man if he was going to cover the hospital bill from his handle coming loose and he got pretty nervous. then i told him i didnt go to hospital and take this ratchet back. literally the 4th one in a year.

I had an orange deadblow crack and shatter sitting in a drawer for 10 years. Never had to hit anything. The red ones are fine.

What can you complain about? Are they not standing behind their warranty?
Plastic is plastic.

I would think snappy is better than ever, qc programs and production has improved vastly in recent history. Computer aided design helps too.

I have 6 or 8 wrenches I bought off the truck in 80 or so, they have been great but I dont need them for every bolt I turn. I have a sprung jaw on one, not a big deal the only thing I care about is the box end on rare occasions. I finally cleared a spot for them in out of the way wrench drawer instead of general circulation where they are mixed with 100 others.

At the time they were the only real option to some extent or convenient anyway. The flank drive does work where other regular 12 pt does not on occasion.

The guys in the shop are always warrantying tools it seems. I have yet to need to "warranty" anything I have. Most my hand/pwr tools are not snapon

i don't know what is going on with snap on, but i warrantied out 11 items last week(through snap on's 800 number, as my "dealer" will not warranty ANYTHING FOR ANYONE), and the girl did NOT generate a return order to send the old tools back, just sending me the replacements.....

In 7 years, I have not had to warranty any of my SO stuff. I am sure with every run of tools there will be some pissers, but for the whole, SO stuff has justified it's price tag for me.

I noticed compared to my older vintage snap on sockets the newer snap on sockets seem to be a little thicker and have less machining in the insides of their deep wells I don't know if that info really matters but I think it's a good point to consider?

You should probably stop using the soft grip.

i def agree with the OP I mean i have had alot of issues with snap on sockets breaking and wrenches and i blew an oil filter socket up the other day. the oil filter socket was blue point so it doesnt rly count but i def have had alot of issues with snap on tools breaking constantly it seems while my other stuff has been holding up fine. i deal mostly with drivability stuff lately but i do still beat a lot of tools up and it seems like my snap on stuff breaks more often than the other brands. just my experience. i think they are good solid performing tools but i certainly am not sold on the durability

Its all the user typically. We all use our tools differently. Some use 3/8 ratchets where a 1/2 ratchet should have been used. Guy i work with breaks a 3/8 ratchet ever like 4 weeks. Some times destroys them where snapon has to give him a whole new ratchet. Thats pretty bad where most of mine have never even been rebuilt. Its all the user. Honestly ive broken probably every mac 1/2 drive chrome socket i own atleast once and never used them on an impact thats pretty bad. Ive been replacing them with snapon slowly never had a problem with my snapon sockets and wrenchs. In my honest opinion its mostly the user.

I pretty much agree with this, I notice I am one of the techs who uses a wider selection of tools for each job at my work.

Yeah I agree also. I know sometimes you have to do what it takes to get it done and maybe use a tool near the edge of it's capacity but for the most part I know the limitations of my tools and what I can get away with. I rarely break tools but when I do I usually see it coming.
