There are two grades of torx in the catalog, tho...if that's the question you are asking.

You mean vs the regular 212EFTXY set? The "heavy duty" are titanium coated but I actually prefer the standard torx for most things since the heavy duty ones often don't fit all the way into the torx recess like they're oversized a thou or two. As a result they like to cam out (ironically exactly what torx was designed to prevent) unless you push them in while turning.

I'm guessing he's shopping on E-bay and some people are listing the part number as PAKTY274 since that's the only part number they see on the holder and they probably think that's the kit part number while others list the actual part number which isn't found anywhere other than on the packaging.

Gold bits don't fit very well, IMHO, people like them because they solve problems when other bits have issues. They are 'half-cut' or something similar, which means they basically wedge into the torx bolt like a screw extractor (i'm hyperbolizing, but you get the point).

They are also a bit stronger because the tapered tip is the weaker part and there is less taper/champfer. The bits also seem to be a little bit higher grade metal, although its hard to know. The coating is gold, either TiN or cadmium plating, as someone esle mentioned (i have no idea).

The gold bits are a useful upgrade if you are having problems with other (esp. non-snap on) units. Which many people do....

If you are starting from scratch, or already have a set of regular lengths, you may also want to consider the stubby bit torx if looking at snap on. They have stiffer design because the bit is short, but seat correctly like normal torx. I think they are useful go-to provided to have a standard or long companion set to use (when needed) for specific cases that need them.

If you are shearing off torx left and right, and you need the specific length, you may just want to try the gold one first. Brake rotors are one application that come to mind.
