Hey all,

One of the guys who works in my shop has a SnapOn Vantage Power Graphing Meter (MT2400).

It was working fine until he changed the batteries. When he swapped in new batteries last month, he got this error message (above).

He bought it used off the truck. It works for cars from the 1990's through about 2001 (I think). Anyway, our SO guy retired a while back and they haven't been able to get a reliable replacement driver for a few years. (Somewhat surprising given how good the route was and probably still is -- I think they may've even divided it up -- it was a sweet contract the guy had for 35 years pre-Franchise contracts).

Maybe it's an easy fix? Is there some sort of way to reset? Is there something that puts this on the blink after a certain amount of time? Maybe a way to hack it? Or even send it to SO to have it fixed (at least to where it was current to c2001) in light of the fact that we've got no drive in our area anymore?

This might be the one:

Looks like there are some e-mail addresses and telephone no's referenced. I might try those but thought I'd check here first.

Snap On doesn't provide support for these anymore. Have you tried reseating the memory card?

Thanks newspeed. Yes, I checked the archive and I saw that SO doesn't provide support any more. What a pity. Doesn't seem right to be as it's still a useful unit. But I guess they have their reasons. We'll try reseating the mem card. Thanks for the suggestion.

I had one and it did the same thing as you described. It was back when they did still service them. If I recall they said the batteries were installed backwards and blew some kind of fuse. It was fuse that was in the board, not a fuse that you can just change out.

A few years ago it started acting up again and I asked the dealer to keep an eye out for a used one. I simply just love using tool. He said he had a few leads on used ones, but never really came through. One that did was over $250. I passed on it.

Not long after that I bought one used at an auction that the batteries were dead in, so no way of turning it on. I figured, like many others in attendance buyer beware. I paid $18 and put batteries in it when I got home. Worked perfectly.

A few weeks after that, at another auction, came across one that looked brand new. Still was in the case, and looked like it had never been used. Paid $40 for that one.

Keep looking, they are out there. You just have to find one.

Thanks for the reply. Blowing some kind of fuse because of putting the batteries in backwards doesn't really seem reasonable to me - doe sit to any of you?

Thanks for the taking the time to reply. We'll probably definitely start looking on the used market and hope for the best if we can't get this going.

I'm also going to try an e-mail and call to SO today just to see....
