I've been going back and forth with my senior coworkers about buying a new box. Currently I'm stuck in a Mac 3 drawer cart and a 26 inch craftsman roller and I need more space, plus I just want something prettier haha. I work out of a 2013 2500 Chevy van so I'm limited to a very specific width box. My snap on dealer is trying to push a box on me for the tune of 2200, don't ask I didn't pay attention to which haha, but it's roughly 42-44 wide. My question is, will snap on carry the lifetime warranty on slides even though it's being put into a damaging environment on purpose? All my coworkers say they will tell me to hit the curb on a warranty claim, and I don't want my wife to think I'm trying to throw away money haha.

Thoughts?

One of my coworkers has had a few drawer slides replaced under warranty without much hastle. But if its just going in a van why not get a cheaper priced box.

The SO box is simply a thought. The dealers biggest pitch to me is the box is guaranteed forever. I just want something that is more durable, my Mac cart busted 3 slides after about 8,000 miles riding around.

I think I do it one of 2 ways - either call the district mgr guy and comfirm the warranty...or just buy the box and don't say a word - if a slide breaks, ask for a new one - you don't have to tell them it's a road service box.......

I just got all new slides for a SO box that I bought in 1988. I don't think getting warranty on the slides will be an issue regardless of the environment that the box is being used in.

^^Correct. The SO warranty doesn't exclude by virtue of environment. About 3 years ago, I was moving my box by trailer when a weld broke on the box. Some of the drawers dislodged destroying 6 slides. Minor damage but SO replaced the entire box.

This past week I decided to add an extra pair of slides to my bottom drawer. They were $25/pair through SO. Very minimal expense.

Big key to helping a box live in a vehicle is to not overload the drawers. Everytime you hit a bump, the hundred lbs of tools in a drawer turns into 200lbs of jolt. Spread the weight out and your box will last longer. Warranty will likely be up to your route salesman and your relationship with him. If you are buying on a regular basis, no problem. If you quit buying from him, warranty could become an issue. If you are buying new, you may look into a Lista or Vidmar. They are built tougher IMO.
