So I have a small shop 16x27 the walls be drywall and painted white. The ceiling is white tin panels.

I have two lighting plans -

One Piece of soft recommend this:
4 -T8 96", 4 32watt tubes.

One online site recommend this
6 - T8 96", 4 32watt tubes.

I know more is better I just don't want to go over board.

I would go with 9. Never too many lights. I have a 29x23 space and have 10 and wish I had about 4 more

My house garage is 24x30 and has six eight footers... It's not enough for a main workspace. I'll be adding more :)

My shop is 40x50 and has 40 eight footers... it's enough :)

Did you put the lights on the ceiling or high up on the side walls?

I'm thinking it's better to place them on the walls, so the light shines under the hood and through the car windows from the sides.

Pictures please!

I have a similar sized garage that I am trying to plan lighting for!
Day and night pictures would be appreciated.

You can always switch some lights seperately. That way they are there if you need them. (And you will) I'd go 4 on one and 2 on the other.

You can draw and overhead view and don't forget to draw in cabinets, shelves and tool chests. They all cast shadows.

I agree with every advice especially you should first consider the shaded area where natural light can’t reach so there is always darkness.
