I made it clear to my family/girlfriend a few years ago - “Do not WASTE your time and money on bs tools for me.”

Instead, I tell them what I want and if they want to get it, they can. This year, I got my brushless 20v Dewalt circular saw.....

My brother loves the brim lit hats. The one he got this year has replaceable batteries but he usually wears the hat out before the batteries die.

I got a fold up hammer plier thingy from brook stone. Waste of money if you ask me. I will leave it in the car, then three years from now, it will end up in the goodwill bin.

I did. A multi-tool that is shaped like a credit card and fits in a credit card slot in a wallet. As corny as it sounds, I kinda like it. Link to photos in the GJ Christmas present thread someone started last week... here.

My kids school sets up a sale in the gym and kids can go buy presents for family. My wife gets cheap jewelry and I get bottom of the barrel ratcheting or 4-in-1 type screwdrivers. Maybe once a tape measure and once a folding set of allen keys.

I don't mind cheap tape measures laying around but the other stuff just doesn't get used. But I don't have the heart to tell them.

I was given this a few years ago, it is worthless, but surprisingly that flex extension is actually decent.

Worx actually makes decent stuff at the price point for consumer-grade use.

I bought someone the yard cart thing, actually. They've already begun to use it, and I'm half tempted to pick one up for myself to have another cart/hand truck, and also have a wheelbarrow without having to store a wheelbarrow.

Won't see one on a construction site any time soon, but that was never really the point, in the end.

The hat with the lights would be a useful item. As for all the **** tools I sometimes get, I just re-gift those to some other person who has no tools.

Sears sold Craftsman branded versions of these exact same craptastic "channel locks"...

on the 10th or 12th time they refused to work properly I tried smashing them through the basement floor with a baby-sledge

I still have them (and an equally terrible Craftsman-robo-grip Vice Grip version).

Glad I'm not the only one that hated them.

Count me in here...although there's sometimes the odd gimmick tool in the stocking, for the most part it's all good.

This year I got the big 114pc Gearwrench tap and die set, a Miller 30FX Arcstation portable welding table, Channellock welders pliers, some blue thread locker, some di-electric grease, and some single use super glue tubes. Lots of good stuff :)

Got one for my dad last year to haul rocks and hay around his property last year and he's been using the heck out of it.
Seems to be holding up so far. Definitely not construction grade but old man with a bad back grade? Definitely

I have the Craftsman branded of those. Haven't had any function problems. I have found a couple things they are good for one being pulling staples that didn't sink all the way or ones that are loosened a bit with a prying tool first. Talking long gun staples. The way the edge comes together at the tip grabs a staple pretty well, and then roll it back on the top curve of the jaw. Sort of like a claw hammer action when pulling a nail. The spring action makes it easy to go right along if pulling out a row of staples.

Not great quality and the laminated construction is odd, but mine have held up for a couple of specific uses.

I got one of those too. I taped a quarter on it and threw it away. That way I could honestly say I lost something of value.

So, I have this uncle-in-law.... His heart is in the right place. He is a gadget guy and he things we are kindred spirits. The problem is that I already have every tool under the sun, so his 10 in 1 tool either gets hidden away or dropped in one of my vehicles. This year, he bought me a flashlight. You can never have too many flashlights, but it's still a funny dynamic. The guy doesn't do any of his own work, but he knows that I do pretty much everything on my vehicles, but he still buys me these kind of tools. Actually, I don't mind at all and am appreciative, but it's still kind of fun to share.

I think my son finally told his wife NOT to get me any gimmick tools last year. I got a coffee mug this year.

I got those for Christmas years ago. I never use them; Guess I should have thrown them away. I also have one of those sockets full of needles that fits anything.

I've had those items for several years, though.

I got one of those hats with lights in the brim from a vendor several years ago. It's come in pretty handy a few times.

I get gimmick tools all the time from my grand kids. I act appreciative and then place them in my tool box. I always get the gimmick tool out and have it on my cart when they come over. I never use it but it is on the cart so they see I have it.

After a couple years I take it to goodwill and donate it as a new gimmick tool will be given to replace it. I do not have the heart to tell the grandkids I don't need them but I keep doing until they are old enough to know I have all the tools I need.

This year the oldest grandson got me a baseball hat with a car company on it. Of course I immediately started to wear it as I really like it.

Start "accidentally" leaving Snap On catalogs at his house.

Extra pounts if you circle some stuff and leave the tool truck guy's card as a bookmark :bounce::thumbup:

I should have done the same. :eyecrazy:

My only hope is they start making better tools again and I can swap my "broken" pair for something that works.

Only tool I got was a rolling stool from HF from my parents, which I will use gladly instead of a 5 gal plastic bucket.

So who else got a "gimmick" tool for Christmas?

Because I'm known to always have a Leatherman on me, clearly I needed two of these as well (although from different people).

Last week at the airport I noticed a sign warning people not to have those credit card sized multi-tools in their wallets as they go through security.
I didn’t think there was anything dangerous to them?

My father and I each received a Bionic Wrench from my mother this Christmas. The kicker was that she gave us the same thing for Christmas a few years ago, so now we both have two. She's getting old and forgetful, so for all we know she ordered a bunch of them from QVC years ago and found leftovers this year.

I have them too, and I also like them for specific things and they have a nice "touch" to them, when you're trying to grab something with a specific amount of pressure. They're not Knipex Cobra's or anything but they have a place in my box and I'll gladly keep them there. I also use them to take on an off shower heads and aerators. They have those nice little sleeves that side over the ends, and the jaws are more rounded than flat. The Cobra's grip too well and can mar the chrome too easily even with the plastic sleeves over them.

Funny that so many of You Guys think those Christmas Tree ornaments are actual tools that are supposed to be used.

I actually really like these for my hobbyist knifemaking shop. They are great for grabbing hold of a little nub of a mosaic pin during glue up so I can orient the patterns the same. I used them on both of these for example to make the half moon lanyard tubes turned properly as well as to make the squares in the other knife handles both turned to the same angles. Little touches like that can make a big difference in the overall appearance of my blades and are things that a LOT of "custom" knifemakers just don't take time to do.
