Ive never seen a Peak refinery so who's oil is relabeled? On the same note who makes oil filters for STP? I know WIX makes filters for other people. The STP is labeled made in USA. So is it a WIX?

I see Peak Oil on sale around here quite a bit for cheap. Good reading on the filters. With the age of my vehicles, I use what ever is on sale. But will change with my 2 newest.

STP Filters are made b Champion, they may or may not be made in the USA, always check.

I personally am a fan of SuperTech filters sold at Walmart. Also made by Champion and everyone I have checked says "Made in USA" on the top of the filter.

I too was a fan of the Walmart Supertech filters when they were the old Champion labs design. The ones I looked at recently appeared to be the new Champion Labs Ecore design, which are the ones AC Delco is buying from Champion Labs today. These smaller, cheaper AC Delco filters have serious fitment problems on old cars.If you drive newer cars designed for the smaller filter, you are OK. If you continue to use Supertech filters, inspect them carefully. If they are the old large filter, you win. If they are the new ill-fitting smaller one, you could lose your entire engine if the smaller wrong size gasket fails to seat properly.

I always inspect a filter before I buy. I make sure it has the metal tube on the inside, Ecore filters goes right back on the shelf.

You are incorrect on WIX filters. Donaldson the Largest Filter maker makes them. I know as its my job to know.
Thanks.

Their website sure looks like they are a marketing / distribution company. There is no mention of R&D facilities or proprietory technology, just marketing jargon.

Also, I never heard of them as a manufacturer when I was in the Engine oem business (before I retired.)

There are many private blenders that will mix up oils, lubes, and chemicals that are then marketed and distributed by companies with name recognition (like peak).

References?

I've also read that WIX makes filters for others. Just as Donaldson makes filters. Wix has plants on four continents making filters. So where does Donaldson figure into the equation at?

Also in 1979 Wix joined the DANA Corporation. And in 2004 WIX sold to Cypress and becomes part of Affinia.

And WIX has 12 plants on four continents. In WIX's timeline there is never one mention of Donaldson.

Correct!! Here is a little more about Peak and the CEO http://www.oldworldind.com/about/leadership/

ABOUT PEAK
No big oil execs, no board of directors, and zero hype.
PEAK's parent company, Old World Industries, is an independent, family-owned business that has been a leader in the development and distribution of high-quality automotive products for over four decades.

Yes, there's a 40-year history of American ingenuity constantly pushing and never settling for less than quality products at a fair price. Forty years of entrepreneurs developing products for the most extreme climates & working conditions that equal billions of miles on the road in big rigs and billions of hours of heavy equipment in the mines and on the farm.

The PEAK brand has always been a little different - and always about the customer. We're not here to sell you more performance than your car needs just to make a few extra dollars for shareholders - We don't have shareholders.

Great products. Great prices. Do right by your ride and your wallet.

Champion is now part of FRAM

^ this - there are a lot of companies who produce or blend oils for others.

I believe the problem with plastic core cartridge filters on some GM engines (specifically the LYZ) is not so much fitment, but durability, since the filter spins inside the housing. The plastic core filter has been known to collapse.
