I picked one of those up from my local Sears a few weeks ago and I also got a good laugh out of that note inside the box.

That kit is actually made by Kastar, they make them for pretty much all the big tool vendors, just a widely different price depending on who you buy it from.

a lot of the craftsman line is now being made in china. the note in the package says congratulations on choosing a quality MADE IN U.S.A. tool. maybe you have a different sense of humor than me :lol_hitti

The funny is the irony of finding a note like that while sears is doing everything they can to offshore their entire product line.

Next year when you buy it, you will get a note that say:

Congradulations on choosing a quality "MADE IN CHINA" tool

I find it amusing that they made a 4 step process out of affixing a sticker.

I find it even more amusing that they felt their customer base would need directions to affix a sticker when they apparently couldn't do it themselves.

The thing that gets me is that there is no warranty but then the outside of the box says it has the forever warranty. Guess I will find out someday

Based upon the assertion posted in this thread then.........

Gearwrench advertising their torque wrenches as made in the USA is also funny since the rest of their line is produced overseas.

You guys are so funny

OHHHH haha, yeah i get it, the joke is that all the people complaining about price, won't buy it expensive, so a company finds a way to make their product cheaper and then they upset the COO snobs who can't just not buy it, they have to complain about it too and then not buy it anyway?

I forget which is funnier, the COO snobs, or the people who  with the COO snobs when they still walk through sears every weekend just to scoff at everything.... sheesh, give it a rest already. we get it. you don't like **** made overseas that used to be made here. :willy_nil

here's a punch line for you... you don't like the way a company does business, stop buying it's ****

I find it hilarious you said this, I do not have a issue with the coo as long as the quality of the tool is such that I do not break the tool the first time out of the box and they stand behind it. But after calling and talking to corporate today over a item came broken I am starting to think this way too.

I often wonder what if... what if Sears Craftsman was made to the same quality specs as Matco... would things have been different for Sears...

The joke is the part that says, "These items DO NOT carry the Craftsman Lifetime Warranty."

K-Mart strikes again!

That must be from pretty old stock. The label says "Sears, Roebuck and Company....." but if you look at the label on any tool now (as far as I know) they say "Sears Holdings LLC". There hasn't been a Sears Roebuck in quite a while.....since the K-Mart thing.

pretty much, i don't know what's so hard about it though for some people, i buy craftsman, duralast, pittsburgh, wera, stanley, channellock, knipex, armstrong, williams, gearwrench, vise-grip/irwin, lincoln electric, chicago electric, northern, bondhus, chicago pneumatic, wurth, snap-on, and the list goes on.... all of the brands in my daily tool box/bag on the roll cart

if the tool works, great, if it doesn't, so what, dont use it or buy it. i don't buy craftsman screwdrivers anymore, because i like wera, but i still use craftsman wrenches, and northern wrenches because they haven't failed and they work great. the machines that go down, get fixed just the same as the guys using armstrong and blackhawk wrenches, and life goes on. i can't believe how many people go on and on about the country of origin that something was stamped with (or not stamped with), like the wrench is going to split in two if you happen to look at it wrong.....

i'd shake the ceo of sears' hand for making the decision to go overseas with production if i met him, he kept the line of tools going instead of letting it die out because it was a department store line of tools with actual quality (and still has quality). they did what they had to do to keep a wrench set down in the sub 50 dollar range, instead of trying to sell them for 250 dollars for a wrench set, unfortunately that is the kind of economy we live in. where everybody wants the best, at the lowest cost. and even if you tell them that its the best and you get what you pay for, the majority won't pay it. because the average consumer doesn't need to spend that much for a set of wrenches, they need to spend the extra 200 on other things. the only way to do this was to go overseas, and i'm sure they knew they were going to get a loss of sales from the COO freaks, but you really can't blame them. they aren't a specialty shop, but they are still THE best supplier of quality tools at a decent price where you can walk into a larger store and find damn near anything you are looking for. without hunting down a truck, or waiting for shipping.

The funny here is that OP has found a made in USA tool by Craftsman that doesn't have a lifetime warranty and a sticker to put on his tool box to prove it!

Dave, gets it, too.

can you name a company that offers a lifetime warranty on consumable products like taps and dies? i think the only one that so far hasn't had a problem yet has been harbor freight, even snap on doesn't warranty used it or broken drill bits and taps

It's not funny because of that, since not all tools with the Craftsman name, regardless of COO, have a lifetime warranty. :dunno:

then you had a truck dealer willing to replace it, just like i was able to replace chisels, center punches and a torque wrench at a local sears before when i had issues with it even though it was 6 years old. but just like it was printed there, you aren't supposed to

Consumable Products are warranted, at the time of sale, only against defects in workmanship or materials that prevent their use. Consumable products are goods reasonably expected to be used up or damaged during use, including but not limited to drill bits, saw blades, grinding discs, sanding discs, knife blades, files, O2 sensors and batteries.

I get it but SARCASM and IRONY don’t translate well on the internet, and some people are SARCASM or IRONY impaired (or both). and some people are just plain stupid.

I could comment about the stupidity of todays youth but that would be beating a dead horse.

ALL the truck tool dealers I've ever delt with warranty taps and dies, even the re- threader taps and dies featured in this thread made by Kastar if branded by the respective company doing the warranty. Some even warranty drill bits 1/4" and up.

for some reason people missed the point that even a sears will warranty things they aren't supposed to, just depends on who you go to. just like having a click torque wrench replaced no questions asked (whoever assume it was a beam needs to stop assuming). as well as multiple other things that aren't covered because they are a "wear" or "consumable" item.

or are we all forgetting about all the fun stories of people dealing with ****** tool truck guys who won't even take a busted wrench back?

seems to me like it's still the same ole b.s no matter what thread pops up. pretty sad.

hey, give me a f-in break. get off the damn high horse. just because you can, doesn't mean they are.

GearWrench® hand tools are warranted for Life to be free of defects in material and workmanship. Carrying cases, pouches, accessory bits and consumable products, if any, are not covered by this Warranty.

just as it has been stated, people CAN get them warrantied, but they aren't supposed to, anything that is mean't to cut through another material is pretty much classified consumable by any manufacturer.

I hear ya. In my experience the service you get from tool trucks (or Sears) is directly proportionate to how you treat them/pay on time. Walk into Sears with attitude and you get ****. Three weeks behind on tool payment? Don't expect Snap On man to lose sleep over your bent screwdriver.

Not talking about you just saying in general.
