I thought Mac's hard-line stuff was still made in the USA?

I do think it's annoying that they don't list COO.

Those long double box wrenches used to be made in tHe USA. I’ve warrantied one for chrome peel and they gave me a wrench that didn’t say USA on it.
Also another one I bought to add to the set doesn’t say USA.
Since i started buying tools from Mac (first Mac truck I’ve deat with was around 2003), I noticed that a LOT of their hardline was just as pricey as snapon, if not more expensive. Their stupid knuckle saver wrenches were about 600 bucks if I’m not mistaken.
Add to that hat a lot of the stuff started coming through as made in Taiwan and you have to wonder what the hell is going on with this company...

Yeah, ok... Look at the set though.

The Mac set is $289. The Snap on set is $315.

If there is one thing I have come to understand this year is that the list / suggested price of a tool doesn't mean very much when it comes to tool truck brands. With the right dealer / promo you don't usually come close to the website's asking price. I have socket sets / extensions / ratchets in a combo that was a straight 40% off the individual set price and my super-awesome SO dealer / enabler threw in another ratchet on top of all of that. Same with Matco - bought the magnetic swivel spark plug socket set and he added a 14mm 12-point socket for the BMW's all for considerably less than what the website wanted. I am sure there are Mac dealers out there that do the same. Now if only I could encounter one...

Snap-on prices have increased 10% over last year. So at the moment most Snap-on tools will cost more than Mac.

Its not fair to single out items in a catalog. For example Snap-on's 4 pc. Bearing Race Punch set is made in China and sells for $159. Mac's equivalent set is made in the USA and sells for $134. I have the Mac set.

All I know Mac is a lot more flexible in pricing. In my area with hundreds and hundreds of shops, Snap-on has little competition. When you see 3 Snap-on dealers having coffee at a restaurant, you know there prices are going to be similar and at list on non promo items

Who cares? :dunno:

You can get a nicely made KTC, Genius, or Carlyle version cheaper, or if you must have US Made, the newest Cornwell model is really nice with thicker edges.

I don't remember anyone saying MAC tools were cheaper than Snap on. Each brand may have something on sale that might be a few dollars cheaper but, buying from a tool truck is never about the price. It's about the service they offer. You know, truck to you service, pay for it while you earn with it credit, a supposedly wider selection of better made tools, etc.

I guess I've been turning wrenches too long as I care less about whose name is stamped on it or where it's made, than I do about how the tool performs.:fingersx:

That's my general approach for most things. I'm not paying to keep other people employed. I'm buying the best product that fits my needs. If it's made in Taiwan and works great for 1/4 the price of one of the tool trucks, so be it.

It's pretty difficult to tell the quality difference between something from SO or something from Williams for most things. Yet, somehow the Williams is always a fraction of the price of the SO tool.

You can buy near new Snap On sockets, ratchets and wrenches at reduced price (~50%) if you are willing to wait and be patient.
