Well, you're probably correct in thinking that. BUT my garage wall is more badass than yours!

Behold:
garage1-1.jpg

garage2-1.jpg

garage3-1.jpg

Excuse the crappy iPhone pictures, they will have to suffice for now. Quick summary: I took advantage of the $8k first-time home buyers credit last July. Bought a "well-used" 1983 home in central Fl, about 1.5 miles away from my parents and 5ish miles away from my brother. I put a couple of bucks into the house and just started paying attention to the garage. My parents love anything related to home repair/upgrades and I'm no slouch, so any project will go pretty quickly.

Future plans include:
- installing two more double light fixtures
- Rust-o-leum epoxy floor coat
- painting the beige walls a different color/scheme
- new garage door/opener
- bench/welder/toolbox/tools/compressor

I can barely make out that there's a Big Daddy Roth "Rat Fink" mural on the wall.....I think? You gotta get some bigger pics bro. Congrats on the house though, there's nothing quite like the feeling of owning your own home. Even if its not a mantion to someone else, it is to you ;-)

So....is your garage 2 story?

DSCN7416.jpg

Do you have a spiral staircase to the second floor?

Did you build it all yourself? Sink every single nail? Lift every single board?

You have a long ways to go before you can claim badass.

But pictures are welcome as you strive towards 'badass'.

any recommendations for a better image-hosting site?

the house is badass enough for me. The crappy pictures are trying to show that the complete left-side of my garage wall is a rat fink mural.

Give the guy a break. I think the mural is badass!!! I have been lurking on this site for a little while and this is the first time I have seen a newcomer being treated like this. You guys need to take it easy!

Nice - did you get such a warm welcome when you joined the site?

OP: Definitely need bigger pics. I'm a RatFink fan myself, although I don't have any graphics (yet). Congrats on the new digs!!

I would like to see bigger pictures too! Not sure about the picture hosting site, can't you just save them to your computer and attach them from there? I have never used a picture hosting site so I don't know what the advantages are.

I like how you define well used as being a home from 1983. Houses up here in new england that are reasonably priced were build between 1920 and 1950

Pictures look a little better now. The wall-mural is almost done now, so I'll take some better pictures this weekend if anybody is interested. Lots of **** in the garage now, so pardon the mess. I appreciate all the constructive comments

The rude-boy BS has been cleaned up.

I apologize to the one or two members who came to the aid of the OP, but whose posts contained quotes of the rude-boys. I deleted your posts to start us off rude-boy-free.

To the OP: The mural is cool, and we are a warm and welcoming bunch almost 100% of the time. Not sure what happened today, but it wont become a pattern.

Look forward to seeing the progress in your new space, and welcome to the site. :)

Hey, I'm late to the party, but the photos I see are large enough. That mural kicks ***. Where do you find someone who can do things like that?

haha, my mom! She's been into painting/design stuff for years now. I mumbled that idea about a month ago and she thought it was great. Once the rest of the walls are painted, it will really stand out.

The wall mural looks AWESOME. The rat fink stuff looks cool. Ever since I saw my first hot rod mag at 12 I have loved 1st gen camaros and since become a huge fan of drag racing. For many years now, I have wanted a large painted mural about the size of yours of a fat 'n skinny tired '68(same as mine) leaving the line with the front tires a couple feet in the air. We just had our offer accepted on another house, and if we end up with it, one of my first projects will be finding someone to paint it before I move all my junk in.

x 100. Nice work!

I don't know what gets into people; oh well. I'm relatively new here too and I don't have any talent to do what you did. You SHOULD be proud of it, I would be if I could do it. Best, Dan

That's rather cool. I didn't want to repeat the Rat Fink comments, but then I noticed the background. I like the abstractness. Rat Fink on peyote.

That is some quality work there

I assume he means that the previous owners did not maintain the house as well as they could have. If renters had to be evicted from a house it becomes well used in a hurry.

Ed "Big Daddy" Roth is a legendery cartoon artist and hot rodder from back in the 50's and 60's. He's the father of the "Kustom Kulture," the style that hot rods and hot rod builders / drivers took on back then. The general style of "greasers" and hot rod junkies back in that era and in my opinion the styles that precursered the crazy artistic styles we see today in just about the enitre hot rod and muscle car world. Rat Fink was one of the charchters that he came up with, because he hated Mickey Mouse, and it took off right away in that Kustom Kulture.

The mural looks great! First time I've seen something like that in a garage. What's going on the other walls?
